The Story

«Oh My Guard» will bring together Jung Yong-hwa and Hong Seung-hee in a romance that directly plays on the conventions of K-dramas.

Jung Yong-hwa plays the role of Uhm Tae-bong, a huge Hallyu star who seems to have it all: good looks, talent, success, and self-confidence. Although he’s a regular in romantic dramas, the actor has a rather surprising trait for someone who has made this his specialty: He refuses to film kissing scenes.

Performed by Hong Seung-hee, Oh Hae-ra is a shy young woman who gets scared easily. But after an accident, something changes: she becomes convinced that she is Cha Hong-doo, the heroine of the drama starring Tae-bong.

Hong Seung-hee will thus have to switch between two radically different personalities. On the one hand, there’s Hae-ra with her timid nature; on the other, Hong-doo, who is much bolder and more fearless.

Jung Yong-hwa is hiding something behind his image as the perfect star

The first images show Uhm Tae-bong perfectly at ease in his role as a celebrity. His relaxed expression, confident gaze, and slight smile reflect the self-assurance of an actor accustomed to being the center of attention.

But «Oh My Guard» isn’t just going to rely on its glamorous image. Tae-bong also has a charismatic personality, a knack for witty comebacks, and a much more playful side that can emerge when you least expect it.

Jung Yong-hwa is thus expected to transition from a self-assured and perfectly composed star to much more comedic situations, while gradually revealing the vulnerabilities his character strives to hide.

His mysterious rule about kissing should, in fact, play a significant role in this dual aspect. Despite specializing in romance films, Tae-bong categorically refuses to make them. The reason for this ban remains carefully hidden for now.

Hong Seung-hee will go from being a shy heiress to a fighter

The new stills from «Oh My Guard» mainly highlight the two radically different characters that Hong Seung-hee will portray.

In real life, Oh Hae-ra is a shy and easily frightened heiress. Her personality is a stark contrast to that of Cha Hong-doo, the fictional character with whom she begins to identify after her accident.

Hong-doo is an energetic, self-assured bodyguard who is particularly skilled in combat. Hae-ra therefore begins to act as if she possessed these qualities herself, to the point of becoming Tae-bong’s secret bodyguard. The production team specifically highlighted the work done by Hong Seung-hee to make this transformation visible on screen.

«Hong Seung-hee clearly conveyed the diametrically opposed charms of Oh Hae-ra and Cha Hong-doo through her constantly changing looks and expressions,» the team explained, adding that she switches effortlessly between a «bold and confident» energy and an «innocently cheerful and adorable» personality.

Park Yoo-na is gradually falling for Jung Yong-hwa

Accustomed to working with Uhm Tae-bong (Jung Yong-hwa), a specialist in on-screen romances, Na-ri (Park Yoo-na) gradually begins to develop genuine feelings for her co-star. The first glimpses of Park Yoo-na show an actress who is very self-assured in public but much less in control of her emotions when it comes to Tae-bong.

Song Na-ri is both a member of a girl group and an actress. Her glamorous looks and self-confidence have helped her become a leading celebrity, but she refuses to settle for that image. Her goal is to be recognized for her work as an actress.

Behind her apparent ease lies a particularly determined professional. She rehearses her scenes so much that her scripts eventually wear out from being worked on so often. The first images reflect this confidence: with a radiant smile, a self-assured gaze, and star quality, Na-ri seems perfectly at ease in the world of entertainment.

Announcements

Yet another photo shows her with a furrowed brow, one hand resting on her heart. This reaction offers a glimpse of a much more vulnerable side of her personality.

The drama will start on October 24 at 10:50 p.m. (KST) on Lifetime and on Viu in certain countries.
