Lee Hyun-wook (Lee Hyun-wook), born on June 17, 1985, in Icheon, in Gyeonggi Province, is a South Korean actor. A graduate of the Korea National University of Arts, he became interested in acting while in middle school and trained in drama with his grandmother’s support.
He began his career with several short films, including Repatriation (2000), The Camel (2008), Thorn-Hearted (2010) and The Out Boxer (2011). This film earned him the Face in Shorts Award at the Asiana International Short Film Festival in 2012. In 2014, he made his television debut in Three Days, and then to commercial cinema in The Target. At the same time, he has been pursuing a career in theater, notably in True West, Old Wicked Songs, Judo Boy and The Pride.
His fame grew in 2019 thanks to the thriller Strangers from Hell, in which he plays the mysterious Yoo Gi-hyuk. He then landed a leading role in Search (2020), before appearing in She Would Never Know and above all Mine (2021). His portrayal of Han Ji-yong in the latter earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Baeksang Arts Awards. He went on to star in Remarriage & Desires (2022) and Song of the Bandits (2023).
In 2025, he will play Yi Bang-won, the future King Taejong, in the historical drama The Queen Who Crowns, and then reprises his role as Hyun Woo-yong in Shark: The Storm. In 2026, he plays the role of Lee Do-gyeong in Gold Land, appears in Boyfriend on Demand and The Hunt Is in Their Blood – Season 2, and plays Kim Beop-min, the future King Munmu, in King Munmu the Great.
In film, his filmography also includes #Alive (2020), The Policeman’s Lineage (2022), The Plot (2024) and Dream Journey to the Land of Peach Blossoms (2026).
