The cast of Netflix's upcoming medical drama « First Doctor » (working title) continues to take shape.
On June 18, several Korean media outlets reported that Ha Yun-kyung had received an offer to join the series. Her agency, HODU&U Entertainment, confirmed the news, stating: «Ha Yun-kyung has received an offer from the production team of the Netflix series «First Doctor» and is currently considering it favorably.»
An experienced surgeon with a history of heroin use
«First Doctor» will tell the story of Heo Ji-wan, a passionate doctor who returns to the pediatric department at Yeonhee University, located in the provinces.
Years earlier, she had been forced to leave that hospital following an incident that occurred during her residency. Her return will mark the beginning of a new phase in her career, as well as numerous changes within the department.
As previously announced, Jung Ryeo-won is in talks to play Heo Ji-wan.
Ha Yun-kyung was offered the role of Ki Eun-gyeol, the hospital’s most experienced surgical resident. Known for her professional skills, she also shares a history with Heo Ji-wan.
At first opposed to the reforms and changes the heroine wants to implement, Ki Eun-gyeol gradually comes to recognize her professionalism and sincerity as a doctor.
Kim Moo-yeol and Baek Hyun-jin have also been announced
The project also features several other well-known actors. Baek Hyun-jin is reportedly in talks to play Professor Son Sang-baek, the head of the surgery department and a character who is also connected to Heo Ji-wan’s past.
Kim Moo-yeol has also been offered one of the lead roles in the drama, although details about his character have not yet been revealed.
If his participation is confirmed, he will reunite with director Hong Jong-chan for the third time, following the series «Juvenile Justice» and «Teach You A Lesson.».
The drama will be directed by Hong Jong-chan, who recently gained attention for his work on «Teach You A Lesson,» and is expected to begin production in the second half of 2026.
