According to information revealed by YTN Star on June 15, the production team is preparing a special program dedicated to «Love in the Moonlight» to mark its 10th anniversary.
Discussions are reportedly underway with the five main cast members of the drama: Kim Yoo-jung, Park Bo-gum, Jung Jinyoung, Chae Soo-bin and Kwak Dong-yeon. Filming is reportedly scheduled for early August, although the air date has not yet been announced.
Bringing the five stars together would not have been easy given their particularly busy schedules. However, the actors reportedly expressed a desire to participate in this project as a way of thanking the many fans who continue to love the series nearly a decade after it aired.
A drama that left a lasting impression on an entire generation
Aired on KBS2 between August and October 2016, «Love in the Moonlight» is adapted from a popular web novel. The story follows Lee Yeong, a crown prince with a complex personality, and Hong Ra-on, a young woman forced to pose as a eunuch in the royal palace.
Blending romance, humor, and court intrigue, the series was a huge hit in South Korea, with a peak viewership rating of 23.3% (%).
The drama also played a major role in the careers of several of its actors. Park Bo-gum and Kim Yoo-jung, in particular, formed one of the most beloved on-screen couples that year. Their chemistry earned them the Best Couple Award at the 2016 KBS Drama Awards.
Ten years later, the five actors have become major figures in the Korean entertainment industry. A reunion of the original cast would therefore be a highly anticipated event for K-drama fans.
