Sung Hoon is set to return to the small screen after a three-year hiatus. The actor has chosen « What a Boss Wants » for his return to television dramas, a new MBN romance in which he will play Kwon Do-hyuk, a chaebol heir who is as brilliant as he is hard to please.
Facing him, Oh Se-young will play Lee Eun-chae, the lead singer of an indie band. This encounter promises to throw off a man who is used to controlling everything—even his particularly strict musical tastes.
New images now offer a glimpse of Sung Hoon in the role of this cold, rational CEO, whose personality at times seems closer to that of an artificial intelligence than to the machines he develops himself.
Sung Hoon returns to television as a particularly demanding CEO
Kwon Do-hyuk is the only son of a family ranked among the 1 % wealthiest chaebols. Handsome, talented, and exceptionally intelligent, he runs OYes Entertainment and is considered a genius in the field of artificial intelligence.
His personality, however, is far from warm. Guided above all by reason and logic, Do-hyuk comes across as so cold that the production team describes him as being «even more AI than the AI he creates.» His tastes are just as distinct.
The CEO swears by classical music and, on the other hand, hates songs with vocals. This detail obviously takes on special significance, since the woman destined to turn his life upside down is, as it happens, a singer.
The new images continue this character portrayal. Sung Hoon first appears in an impeccable suit, with a cold gaze and a composed demeanor that match Do-hyuk’s highly controlled image. Other photos show him in more casual attire and with a more relaxed expression, offering a glimpse into another facet of the character.
A singer is about to shake up his well-established tastes
Do-hyuk's life is also about to be turned upside down by a crisis at work.
As his company goes through a difficult period, his father, Kwon Tae-woong (Park Jung-hak), offers to take charge of turning it around. At the same time, Do-hyuk sets out to find a mysterious woman after hearing her voice on an album. This quest will lead him to Lee Eun-chae, played by Oh Se-young.
As the lead singer of an indie band, Eun-chae becomes the only truly unpredictable factor in Do-hyuk’s previously perfectly organized life. It’s a rather ironic situation for a man who claims he can’t stand music with vocals.
It is around this contrast that «What a Boss Wants» will build its romance: a man with extremely rigid preferences finds himself drawn to a woman who belongs precisely to the musical world he rejects. Sung Hoon and Oh Se-young are also expected to have a tumultuous relationship. During the first script reading, the two characters were already portrayed as spending a lot of time bickering, before their relationship gradually began to evolve.
For Sung Hoon, the drama will mark his return to television drama after an absence of about three years. «What a Boss Wants» will premiere on November 11 at 10:20 p.m. (Korean time) on MBN.
