MBC begins promoting its upcoming action drama « A Bona Fide Killer » by revealing new photos from its script reading as well as its official premiere date. Starring Gong Hyo-jin, Jung Joon-won, Lee Sang-yi, and Sung Dong-il, the series is now set to premiere on July 31.
Adapted from a popular webtoon, the drama promises an original blend of action, family comedy, and suspense centered on a multifaceted heroine.
Gong Hyo-jin juggles family life and secret missions
As previously reported, Gong Hyo-jin plays Yoo Bo-na, the manager of Sales Team No. 3 at Durumi Electronics.
Behind this facade of a model employee and caring mother, however, lies «Kingfisher,» an elite assassin capable of eliminating her targets with a single shot.
The drama will follow her efforts to maintain a balance between her career, her family, and her clandestine activities, all while facing increasingly dangerous situations. Footage from the script reading shows Gong Hyo-jin already fully immersed in this character, who will alternate between everyday moments and action sequences.
People around him who complicate his double life
Jung Jun-won plays Kwon Tae-sung, Yoo Bo-na's husband.
A passionate investigative journalist, he dreams of a more just world and tirelessly pursues stories involving criminals and injustices. What makes his situation particularly ironic is that he is completely unaware that the notorious killer he is trying to understand lives under the same roof as him.
Lee Sang-yi Lee Dong-jin plays a detective in the Violent Crimes Unit at the Nambu Police Station. Known for his keen sense of justice, he is determined to track down Kingfisher and could become one of the greatest threats to Yoo Bo-na.
The veteran Sung Dong-il played by Kim Bong-pal, head of Sales Team No. 3 at Durumi Electronics. Behind his friendly demeanor lies an expert capable of making deaths look like accidents. His experience and loyalty will make him a valuable ally to the heroine.
The cast also includes Moo Jin-sung as Ki Young-do, Lee Eun-saem as Kwon Se-ah, and Choi Woo-sung as Beom Seong-hoon.
Photos from the script reading show a team that’s already very close-knit, heightening anticipation for this series, which will mark Gong Hyo-jin’s return in a particularly unconventional role.
«A Bona Fide Killer» will premiere on July 31 on MBC (pending an international streaming platform), rounding out an already packed July schedule of new dramas.
