On October 6, WhyNot Media announced the production of « Cheongdam International High School: Royal Camp », a spin-off of the series, starring Hong Ye-ji, Miyeon of i-dle, Hyunsuk of CIX, and Kim Min-ki in the four leading roles.
This time, the action won’t take place directly in the hallways of Cheongdam International High School. The new psychological thriller will transport its characters to a very unusual camp where applicants to the school will discover that their admission hides a much more dangerous game.
A camp where students decide who deserves to be admitted
«Royal Camp» will follow transfer applicants who have passed the initial screening based on their application materials. To have a chance at enrolling at Cheongdam International High School, they must then participate in a closed camp where current students at the school take part in evaluating them. But securing a spot is not the program’s only real goal.
As the competition progresses, the contestants will begin to discover that…’There's another purpose behind Royal Camp. In this isolated setting, social rivalries, ambitions, and secrets are likely to quickly turn the competition into a psychological battle.
The spin-off will thus retain the themes of class struggle, power, and desire that underpin «BITCH X RICH,» while shifting them to a new setting. The project has been entrusted to Park Bong-seop, best known for «Eve.».
Miyeon Becomes the New Queen of Cheongdam
Hong Ye-ji will star in Moon Ji-won, a contestant who arrives at the camp with a much more personal motivation than her competitors: she wants revenge after losing everything. An excellent student with a strong survival instinct, she refuses, in particular, to give in to Cha Se-mi.
Played by Miyeon, Cha Se-mi is the only daughter of the family that heads the Taehan Group, and above all the new queen of Cheongdam International High School. Raised from childhood according to the rules of social class and power, she nevertheless sees her position begin to waver when Ji-won appears on the scene.
Hyunsuk will play Seo Yi-jun, the eldest son of Cell Holdings, a rival company of the Taehan Group. Handsome, intelligent, and seemingly considerate, this chaebol heir nevertheless views even love and friendship through the lens of his own interests. His growing interest in Ji-won—who refuses to submit to this hierarchy—might begin to change him.
Finally, Kim Min-ki will be Seo Dong-hwa, Ji-won’s childhood friend and a former member of the national tennis team. Coming from a modest background, he sees his transfer as a chance to escape his circumstances, but Royal Camp will gradually force him to choose what he’s willing to sacrifice to protect what truly matters to him.
With these four characters, the spin-off promises to revisit the power dynamics that defined «BITCH X RICH,» while introducing a new central rivalry between Moon Ji-won and Cha Se-mi.
Filming is now set to begin in earnest, while «Cheongdam International High School: Royal Camp» is scheduled for 2027.
