A woman who electrocutes everyone she touches and a man whose artificial heart is just about to run out of power: « Take Charge of My Heart »plans to take its title literally. New images show in greater detail" Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin, whose two distinctive traits will bring them together in a way that is, to say the least, unusual.

Based on the web novel of the same name, this new Netflix romantic comedy will star Baek Ho-rang (Kim Young-kwang) and Na Bo-bae (Chae Soo-bin).

On paper, Ho-rang seems to have all the makings of an almost too-perfect romance hero. A third-generation heir to a chaebol family and executive director of TS Resort, he’s a perfectionist workaholic, capable of confidently handling anything entrusted to him. However, he hides a much more serious problem: his heart is artificial, and its battery is running low.

In fact, the new footage shows him losing some of his usual composure when he comes face to face with Bo-bae. And for good reason: this young woman might very well be the only person capable of solving his problem.

Chae Soo-bin has spent her life avoiding any physical contact

Na Bo-bae works as a drama screenwriter and also has a unique trait that has profoundly influenced her daily life. Ever since she was struck by lightning as a child, his body generates electricity. Anyone it comes into contact with is therefore at risk of receiving an electric shock.

It’s an ability that sounds fun on paper, but it has forced her to avoid physical contact and has seriously complicated her love life. As a result, Bo-bae is still single when she meets Ho-rang.

Chae Soo-bin explains that she thought through several small details to show on screen how her character adapted to this situation. «I wanted to show Bo-bae’s tendency to avoid disturbing others because of her electric power, whether by covering herself from head to toe or by wearing just one glove.»

Even his curly hair was designed to resemble static electricity. Then Bo-bae makes a discovery that completely changes the game: Ho-rang is immune to his electric shocks.

For a woman who has spent her life unable to touch anyone freely, the possibilities suddenly become endless. She then sees an opportunity to fulfill that famous «romance bucket list» that, until now, she had only been able to imagine.

He needs his electricity; she finally discovers the switch

Their encounter becomes even more unlikely when their two unique abilities begin to complement each other. Bo-bae's electricity can, in fact, recharge Ho-rang's artificial heart through physical contact. So what was a problem for her becomes exactly what he needs to keep on living.

Kim Young-kwang acknowledges that this very unique concept was a major factor in his decision to take on the project. «“Take Charge of My Heart” is a romance straight out of a comic book, with this original concept of an artificial heart that runs out of energy and is recharged through physical contact.”. The actor explains that he was drawn to the story’s atmosphere of pure, almost surreal romance. He also promises that Ho-rang’s style will evolve in various ways depending on the situations his character encounters. His chemistry with Chae Soo-bin also seems to have made filming easier. Kim Young-kwang says they spent much of their time on set laughing and highlights his co-star’s natural talent for romantic comedy.

Chae Soo-bin, for her part, describes the drama as a story that draws on the familiar elements of the genre while adding «our own adorable charm.» Behind its fantasy premise, «Take Charge of My Heart» will therefore play on a fairly simple paradox: Bo-bae has always had to avoid touching others, while Ho-rang will literally need her to touch him.

This turns a vital necessity into a setting particularly conducive to romance.

«Take Charge of My Heart» will be available in its entirety on October 9 on Netflix and under the title «Recharge mon coeur» in French.
