Kim Ji-won is getting ready to put on her white coat in " Doctor X ", and SBS has now set the air date. The new medical drama will premiere on October 9, 2026 and will feature the actress alongside Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo, and Kim Woo-seok.
Based on the famous Japanese series of the same name, «Doctor X» will, however, take on a more medical black. At the center of the story is Gye Soo-jung, a brilliant and independent surgeon who finds herself caught up in the power struggles and corruption of a large teaching hospital.

Kim Ji-won Takes on the Leadership of a Corrupt Hospital
Kim Ji-won will play the role of Gye Soo-jung, a brilliant surgeon assigned to Guseo University Hospital by an agency that places doctors in medical facilities. She relies neither on her status nor on her connections to make her mark: her greatest asset remains her extraordinary mastery of surgery.

A position that is likely to quickly disrupt the hierarchy of an institution riddled with corruption. Portrayed as a true «dark hero,» Gye Soo-jung intends to demonstrate what it truly means to be a doctor, even if it means directly challenging the system in which she operates.
The first images from the script reading offer a glimpse of Kim Ji-won in this new role. The production team notes that the actress quickly made the character—a surgeon who is particularly confident in her abilities—her own.
Facing her, Son Hyun-joo will play Bu Seung-kwon, the director of the Guseo University Hospital branch. His imposing presence already hints at an intriguing clash with Gye Soo-jung, who is unwilling to submit to the established rules.

Lee Jung-eun and Kim Woo-seok round out the team
Another person to watch: Jang Hee-sook, played by Lee Jung-eun. As the head of the agency that sends Gye Soo-jung to the hospital, she is described as a cunning woman who readily gives the impression that she cares only about money. A colorful character who is sure to bring a different kind of energy to the story.

Kim Woo-seok, for his part, will play Park Tae-kyung, an intern from a privileged background. The drama is expected to explore a mentor-protégé dynamic between Tae-kyung and Gye Soo-jung, revealing another side to Kim Ji-won’s character.

Lee Jin-hee, Kim Young-min, Lee Sung-wook, Kwon Seung-woo, Heo Jun-seok, Choi Deok-moon, Kim Jung-young, Kim Young-ah, and Choi Kwang-il are also part of the cast.

After this first group read-through, the production team was particularly enthusiastic: «Although this is their first collaboration, the actors» strong performances and their captivating portrayals of the characters made the read-through as immersive as possible.”
We'll have to wait a few weeks to discover this new side of Kim Ji-won. «Doctor X» will premiere on October 9, 2026, on SBS and will also be available on Netflix.
