100 Days of Deception

«100 Days of Deception» (formerly known as «100 Days of Lies») is a historical thriller set during the Japanese colonial era in Korea. The story follows a pickpocket from Gyeongseong (formerly Seoul), who becomes an undercover spy for the Korean Independents. To accomplish his mission, he infiltrates the Japanese government, posing as an ordinary employee.

The Characters

Kim Yoo-jung plays the role of Lee Ga-gyeong, known as the best pickpocket in Gyeongseong. Her mission is particularly risky: to infiltrate the Japanese Government-General of Korea by posing as an apprentice interpreter.

It is in this context that Kim Tae-woong, performed by Park Jin-young. Also known by its Japanese name, Hideo Sato, he has just been appointed as an interpreter in the General Government. He is also the adopted son of the Inspector General of Korea, one of the highest-ranking officials in the colonial administration.

Kim Hyun-joo She plays Yoo So-ran, a woman who returns to Korea after more than ten years away, driven both by a desire for Joseon’s independence and by a personal vendetta. The new images show her looking more composed, but her expression reveals a very clear determination.

She also finds Yoo Philip, played by Lee Moo-saeng, his assistant and traveling companion.

On his side, Jin Sun-kyu plays Sato Shinichi, one of the most powerful men in the Japanese General Government of Korea. His mere presence is enough to change the atmosphere around him, which already hints at the influence he will have on the plot.

The main poster thus takes on its full meaning when you look at the connections between the five characters. Ga-kyeong is hiding her role as a spy. So-ran is living under a false identity. Her marriage to Philip is just a facade. Tae-woong, meanwhile, finds himself in a situation where his family ties and his position could quickly come into conflict with what he discovers. And Shinichi, even as he distrusts everyone, does not yet know that a plot to assassinate him is directly targeting him.

Audiences

Aired on October 25, Episode 6 of «100 Days of Deception» achieved a national viewership rating of 9.5 % according to Nielsen Korea, a new record for the series, up 3 points from the previous episode (6.5 %), placing it first in its time slot across all networks.
