A perfect first date, two conflicting accounts, and just one question: which one of them is lying? With 15 days to go before it airs, « The Perfect Lie »unveils a new teaser focused on the showdown between Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin, as well as the first images of Ok Ja-yeon in the role of the investigator tasked with separating fact from fiction.
Directed by Jo Young-min, who also directed « You and Everything Else », this psychological thriller follows a man and a woman who give completely conflicting accounts of the same memory.

A first date that turns into a nightmare
Yoo Yeon-seok plays Min Joon-ho, a man known for never lying. Opposite him, Seo Hyun-jin plays Kang Ji-sun, a woman who asserts with equal conviction that her version of events is the only true one.
The teaser opens with what looks like a perfect first date. The two characters shyly draw closer to each other, exchange a few tender gestures, and everything seems to be going wonderfully. Then Kang Ji-sun’s voice shatters the mood: life, she reminds us, is unpredictable.
The romance then gives way to a battle of conflicting accounts. Each person defends their own version of «that day,» and the investigation takes on a new dimension when the police get involved.
No one is really trustworthy
As the case unfolds, Min Joon-ho and Kang Ji-sun discover that they can no longer trust anyone—not even those closest to them.
The teaser features several supporting characters with enigmatic expressions: Kang Ji-eun (Kim Ji-hyun), Kim Hyung-soo (Lee Chun-hee), and Park Joong-hyun (Oh Dong-min). Their exact roles remain unclear, but their presence alone is enough to sow doubt.
The final scenes show the two protagonists pushed to their limits, running until they’re out of breath and then collapsing. The video ends without providing any answers: what really happened between them?
Ok Ja-yeon, the investigator searching for the truth
Caught between these two conflicting accounts, Lee Hwa-young, played by Ok Ja-yeon, leads the investigation. A lieutenant in the department handling cases involving women and minors at the Sangcheon Police Station, she is described as rational, responsible, and principled.
Her goal: to uncover what lies behind this «perfect first date.» Through her eyes, viewers will also be invited to try to figure out who is lying.
The new photos show her absorbed in her work, wearing little makeup, her hair neatly tied back. Her face remains impassive, but her steady gaze betrays a keen intuition and unwavering determination.

According to the production team, Lee Hwa-young drives the plot forward alongside the two main characters and holds a key to the story. They also praise the way Ok Ja-yeon has brought her own personal touch to this character, an honest police officer.

With its concept of intertwining storylines and a strong trio of actors, «The Perfect Lie» looks set to be one of the must-watch thrillers of the end of the year.

«The Perfect Lie» will air starting Friday, October 30, 2026, at 9:50 p.m. (Korean time) on MBC, as part of its Friday and Saturday lineup. It is also scheduled to air on Disney+, but nothing has been confirmed yet for Europe. Stay tuned.
