In light of the growing buzz surrounding the series, SBS has finally responded to this possibility.
SBS Discusses the Future of Dramas
On July 6, an SBS representative explained that no official decision had yet been made regarding a sequel.
The network said, «There are no official discussions underway at this time.»
However, SBS hasn't completely ruled out a sequel: «Since this is a drama that could easily be developed into a multi-season series, it seems that viewers» expectations are naturally rising."
Based on a popular webtoon, «Agent Kim Reactivated» follows the story of Manager Kim (So Ji-sub), a seemingly ordinary father who hides a secret past. When his daughter is in danger, he is willing to risk everything to save her and plunges back into a world he thought he had left behind.
An impressive hit with audiences
Since its premiere, the drama has seen exceptional growth.
After debuting with a national viewership rating of 9.5 % according to Nielsen Korea, «Agent Kim Reactivated» saw its ratings rise with each episode, reaching 21.6 % by its fourth episode. Thanks to this performance, the series has become the third-highest-rated SBS drama aired on Fridays and Saturdays in the network’s history.
It ranks second only to «The Penthouse 2,» which reached 29.2 %, and «The Fiery Priest,» with 22 %. This is a particularly remarkable achievement in a landscape where streaming platforms now play a major role.
Despite this success, some viewers are already lamenting the series' short run, which will consist of only 10 episodes.
So Ji-sub himself expressed his desire to reprise his role. At the «SBS DRAMA: NEXT EPISODE» event held on July 1, the actor said he hoped to be part of a second season.
Given the excellent ratings, public interest, and the lead actor’s expressed enthusiasm, all eyes are now on SBS to see if «Agent Kim Reactivated» will continue.
«Agent Kim Reactivated» is also topping the popularity charts
The drama’s success isn’t limited to TV ratings, by the way. This week, «Agent Kim Reactivated» also ranked among the most talked-about series in Korea.
According to the weekly rankings from Good Data Corporation, which analyzes articles, blogs, online communities, videos, and social media, the drama starring So Ji-sub climbed to second place among the week’s most popular series.
The lead actor even topped the individual rankings for the most-talked-about actors, confirming the excitement surrounding his return to an action drama. His co-star, Yoon Kyung-ho, also made it into the top 10, coming in ninth.
This performance places «Agent Kim Reactivated» just behind «Notes from the Last Row,» the new Netflix drama that currently tops the popularity rankings.
