A few days after unveiling the first images of Gong Hyo-jin in the the hull of the fearsome «Kingfisher», « A Bona Fide Killer »now introduces the man who is determined to put an end to the mysterious killer's activities.".
MBC has released the first images of Lee Sang-yi as Lee Dong-jin, a detective who is convinced that only justice can punish criminals.
A police officer determined to arrest «Kingfisher»
In the drama, Lee Dong-jin is a detective known for his excellent arrest rate.
Unlike some members of the public who are fascinated by «Kingfisher,» he believes that no one should take the law into their own hands. Deeply moved by the victims’ suffering, he makes it his personal mission to arrest the mysterious killer.
The new footage shows him carefully examining various crime scenes in search of even the slightest clue. His attentive gaze and serious demeanor reflect his determination not to let any detail slip by him.
A man haunted by his past
According to the production team, Lee Dong-jin is also hiding personal trauma that explains his dedication to the judicial system.
This painful past may have strengthened his conviction that criminals must be punished by the law, not by revenge. However, his encounter with «Kingfisher» may gradually cause him to question some of his convictions.
The development of his relationship with the assassin played by Gong Hyo-jin is expected to be one of the drama's major storylines.
A Rivalry with Gong Hyo-jin
Lee Dong-jin will come face to face with Yu Bo-na, an ordinary mother who leads a double life as «Kingfisher,» a sniper tasked with eliminating criminals who have evaded justice. While Dong-jin initially views her as just another target to be apprehended, the events and encounters he experiences during the investigation may change his perspective.
The production team said, «Lee Sang-yi brings a fresh energy to the set every time we film and really brings his character to life. We hope viewers will be intrigued by this new transformation of the actor.»
Alongside Gong Hyo-jin and Lee Sang-yi, the drama will also feature Jung Jun-won, Sung Dong-il, and Bae Jung-nam.
«A Bona Fide Killer» will premiere on July 31 on MBC.
