That friendly smile was definitely hiding something. In Episode 4 of « Doctor X », Gye Su-jeong discovered the terrible secret of Na Dae-il, the hospital's new surgeon. In Episode 5, which aired this Friday, Kim Ji-won intends to expose the true nature of Jang Seung-jo.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 4.

The surgeon who signed his operations
The revelation left the audience stunned. The surgeon who had engraved his initials on a patient’s organ in the middle of an operation was none other than Na Dae-il, a former military doctor who had arrived at Guseo University Hospital with an impeccable reputation.
A scene directly inspired by real events, as we mentioned when Record viewership for Episode 4. As soon as he arrived, Na Dae-il had tried to win over Gye Su-jeong with coffee and small gestures of kindness, but to no avail. Now it’s easier to understand why the surgeon was wary of him.
A chilling smile in the operating room
The new stills from Episode 5 delve into Na Dae-il’s past, back when he was serving as a military doctor. In them, he is seen performing surgery alone, a strange smile on his face, completely absorbed in what he is doing.

His expression speaks volumes: what drives him is not his patient’s life, but his own pleasure. It’s a spine-chilling disregard for medical ethics.
Gye Su-jeong Wants to Make Amends for the Past
Another image shows Gye Su-jeong standing across from him in that same operating room. It’s an imaginary scene, as if she could turn back time to stop him. She grips his bloodied hand tightly and stares at him with anger and contempt, determined to protect the patient.

It remains to be seen how she’ll handle things in the present. After all, Na Dae-il is admired and trusted by everyone in the hospital. Will Gye Su-jeong manage to break through his arrogance? And will she be able to help the patient who still bears the terrible scars of his actions?
Episode 5 of «Doctor X» will air this Friday, October 23, at 9:50 p.m. (Korean time)—which is 2:50 p.m. in France—on SBS, and will be available on Netflix the same day.
