With just over a month to go before it airs, « A Bona Fide Killer »Finally reveals a first glimpse of its heroine. MBC has released the first images of Gong Hyo-jin in her new role as Yu Bo-na, an ordinary mother who is actually hiding a much more dangerous identity.
The action drama, set to premiere in late July, promises an original blend of family life, everyday humor, and deadly missions.
A mother… and an elite assassin
In «A Bona Fide Killer,» Gong Hyo-jin plays Yoo Bo-na, the head of Sales Team No. 3 at Durumi Electronics.
To those around her, she leads a perfectly normal life with her husband and daughter. But behind this facade lies «Kingfisher,» a legendary sniper tasked with eliminating criminals who have evaded justice.
After spending three years devoted to her family, Yoo Bo-na returns to her career while resuming her secret life as an assassin.
The first images perfectly illustrate this contrast. In some of the photos, she appears armed with a sniper rifle, with the cold, determined gaze of a killer capable of taking down her target with a single shot.
In contrast, other photos show her at the office, focused on her work as a manager, or at home, simply enjoying time with her family.
A New Side of Gong Hyo-jin
The drama should allow Gong Hyo-jin to showcase a side of herself that hasn't been seen before in her career.
Known for her roles in romantic films and comedy-dramas, the actress will have to juggle several different roles here: a model employee, a caring wife, a mother, and a feared killer.
The production team explains: «Gong Hyo-jin leads the filming by bringing to life, in a very realistic way, the two sides of her character: a working mother facing the challenges of everyday life and a killer who strikes fear into the hearts of criminals. Viewers will discover a new side to the actress that they’ve never seen before.»
The many situations Yu Bo-na will face in her life as a housewife should also add a lighter touch to the story, in contrast to the action scenes.
A cast that's already highly anticipated
«A Bona Fide Killer» will also feature Jung Jun-won as Kwon Tae-sung, Yu Bo-na's husband and an investigative journalist. Lee Sang-yi will play Inspector Lee Dong-jin, who is determined to track down the mysterious killer known as «Kingfisher,» while Sung Dong-il will play Kim Bong-pal, Yu Bo-na's supervisor at Durumi Electronics.
The drama is directed by Yoon Jong-ho, best known for «Lovely Runner,» while the screenplay is by Kim Eun-hee.
«A Bona Fide Killer» will premiere on July 31 on MBC (pending an international streaming platform).
