" King Munmu the Great » is changing its name! Now titled «Sword & Silence,» the new historical drama about the unification of the Three Kingdoms of Korea has unveiled new images from Park Sung-woong in the role of a general who is as formidable on the battlefield as he is warm in everyday life.
Directed by Kim Yeong-jo, best known for «Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth,» «Sword & Silence» will recount how the kingdom of Silla, initially less powerful than its adversaries, managed to prevail over Goguryeo, Baekje, and China’s Tang Dynasty.
At the heart of this historic struggle, Park Sung-woong will portray Kim Yu-shin, one of the key military architects of unification.
Park Sung-woong Reveals the Two Sides of General Kim Yu-shin
The new photographs feature a character whose demeanor changes radically depending on the circumstances.
In everyday life, Kim Yu-shin is an approachable and cheerful man, able to joke around and get along with those around him, regardless of their rank or social status. Photographs show him dressed in ordinary clothes, with a broad smile and a warm expression.
But as soon as he puts on his armor, his demeanor changes. On the battlefield, Kim Yu-shin becomes a determined commander whose sole objective is to secure victory.
His gaze hardens, his demeanor becomes more commanding, and he presses forward without letting anything divert him from his mission, even when the fighting puts his troops in a tight spot. This contrast between his everyday personality and his military authority promises to add depth to the character portrayed by Park Sung-woong.
In particular, the general will have to hold his ground despite the many crises threatening the Kingdom of Silla.
A Crucial Partnership with Lee Hyun-wook and Kim Kang-woo
However, Kim Yu-shin will not undertake this mission alone. In «Sword & Silence,» he will be able to count on two men who are both close friends and political allies: Kim Pom-min (Lee Hyun-wook) and Kim Chun-chu (Kim Kang-woo).
Together, they pursue a particularly ambitious goal: to reunify the Three Kingdoms despite the power of the forces opposing Silla. Their relationship will not be without disagreements. The three men have their own convictions and may clash verbally when their opinions differ.
But their loyalty will prevail in the most critical moments. When one of them finds himself in trouble, the others won't hesitate to step in and help him.
This family, military, and political alliance should thus be one of the main threads of the story, alongside the conflicts with rival kingdoms and Chinese forces.
Starring Park Sung-woong as Kim Yu-shin, the series promises to explore both the decisions that shape history and the personal bonds that unite those who make them.

«Sword & Silence,» formerly titled «The Great King Munmu,» is set to premiere on November 14, 2026, on KBS2 (no international streaming platform has been announced yet).
