What if the heroine of a drama suddenly appeared in the real life of its lead actor? The first teaser for « Oh My Guard », the new romantic comedy starring Jung Yong-hwa and Hong Seung-hee.
Unveiled on September 30, the video depicts an encounter that is sure to quickly disrupt the daily life of Uhm Tae-bong (Jung Yong-hwa), a star known for his roles in TV romances. Oh Hae-ra (Hong Seung-hee) seems to know him intimately, even though the two characters have never met.
And the strangest thing of all is her resemblance to Cha Hong-doo, the heroine of the drama in which Tae-bong is currently starring.
«I'm sure you'll protect me.»
The teaser begins with scenes from «The Prince’s Bodyguard,» a fictional story within «Oh My Guard.» In it, Jung Yong-hwa plays a prince who is convinced that someone is trying to take his life. Concerned for his safety, he turns to his bodyguard, Cha Hong-doo, and confides, «I’m certain you’ll protect me.»
But the video then leaves this fictional world behind to introduce Oh Hae-ra, a young woman who truly admires Uhm Tae-bong. Until now, she had only known the actor from her television screen. Yet, when an opportunity to meet him arises, she rushes out, convinced she might never get a second chance. Her behavior is all the more intriguing given that she gives the impression of having hardly ever left her home before.
The teaser deliberately blurs the line between fiction and reality: Cha Hong-doo, the drama’s bodyguard, and Oh Hae-ra, the mysterious admirer, have exactly the same face.
«But who exactly are you?»
When Tae-bong finally comes face to face with Hae-ra, his reaction is far from that of an actor accustomed to meeting his fans. The young woman seems strangely familiar to him. Above all, she seems to know far more about him than a mere spectator would.
Caught between suspicion and confusion, Tae-bong finally asks her, «But who exactly are you?» This encounter is set to be the starting point of a particularly unpredictable romance.
Car Tae-bong isn't exactly your average celebrity either. Despite his reputation as a romantic drama specialist, he consistently refuses to film kissing scenes. Behind his confidence, his sense of humor, and his image as a charming star, he also hides a secret he cannot reveal to anyone.
As for Hae-ra, she is convinced that she is Cha Hong-doo, the female lead in «The Prince’s Bodyguard.» This belief leads her to want to protect Tae-bong as if the story of the series were continuing in the real world.
The drama is co-directed by Yoon Jong-ho, best known for «Lovely Runner» and «A Bona Fide Killer,» and Lee Seung-hoon («Doctor Shin»).
«Oh My Guard» will premiere on October 24 at 10:50 p.m. (Korean time) on Lifetime and Viu (to be confirmed for a platform in France). The drama has also been announced as broadcast in 83 countries, without specifying the platform yet.
