To find out if Yim Si-wan is actually involved in a murder, Seol In-ah will use a particularly risky method in « Love in Disguise ». A former special forces soldier turned detective, her character will hide her profession and even pose as a man in order to be hired as the main suspect's personal secretary. New images offer a first glimpse into this double life, which is sure to keep the heroine constantly on the verge of being exposed.
Set to premiere on October 19 on tvN and Prime Video, «Love in Disguise» will be an adaptation of the webtoon and web novel known by its literal title, «Why Don’t You Know She’s a Woman?».
This romantic thriller will bring together Yim Si-wan as Yoon Yi-jun, a third-generation heir to the Taegang Group, and Seol In-ah in Kang Jae-hee's film, a particularly determined detective. The Previous images had portrayed Yi-jun as a perfectionist He is feared by his employees, though his cold demeanor melts away when he returns home to his cat, Jerry. This time, Jae-hee takes center stage.
A former military officer who holds a 9th dan in martial arts
Before becoming a detective, Kang Jae-hee was a noncommissioned officer in the South Korean Army’s Special Warfare Command. This experience partly explains her impressive physical abilities. Jae-hee holds a 5th dan in judo, a 1st dan in hapkido, and a 3rd dan in taekwondo—for a total of nine dan.
She doesn't hesitate to put those skills to use in the field. Driven by a strong sense of justice and a deep aversion to criminals, she throws herself into dangerous situations without hesitation whenever she has the chance to make an arrest. Her effectiveness has thus earned her the trust of her colleagues.
But a new case will require more from him than just physical strength. Yoon Yi-jun becomes a suspect in a murder case.
Jae-hee then decides to observe him long enough and closely enough to figure out what he’s hiding. However, the position that would allow her to be by his side at all times presents a problem: it’s reserved exclusively for men. So she comes up with a radical solution.
To investigate Yim Si-wan, she becomes his secretary
Jae-hee first hides her identity as a detective, then disguises herself as a man in order to land the job as Yi-jun’s personal secretary. This allows her to investigate her prime suspect on a daily basis without him knowing that the person assigned to assist him is actually a police officer.
The new stills show the two sides of this mission. In some, Seol In-ah appears as a detective in the field. In others, with short hair and dressed in a professional outfit, she has become the secretary who must work closely with Yi-jun without arousing his suspicion.
This undercover mission will obviously become even more complicated once romance begins to intertwine with the investigation. Director Kim Ho-joon has compared Seol In-ah to one of the genre’s most famous heroines: Go Eun-chan, played by Yoon Eun-hye in «Coffee Prince» in 2007.
He describes Seol In-ah as «the very definition of a woman dressed as a man», noting that she possesses both the physical presence the character requires and the qualities needed to carry the drama’s romantic element. The main question, however, is how long Jae-hee will be able to maintain her cover. The further her investigation progresses, the closer she’ll have to stay to a man she initially considers a possible murderer.
And if Yi-jun also starts taking too close an interest in her new secretary, her identity as a detective might not be the only secret she’ll have to protect.
«Love in Disguise» will premiere on October 19 at 8:50 p.m. KST on tvN and on Prime Video worldwide.
