The list of K-dramas set to premiere in October continues to grow. Netflix has just shared a first teaser for « Take Charge of My Heart », a romantic comedy that has generated a lot of buzz thanks to its leading duo, played by Chae Soo-bin and Kim Young-kwang, but also to a concept that is, to say the least, original: he has an artificial heart whose battery is running low, while she is literally capable of recharging it.

Adapted from the web novel of the same name, «Take Charge of My Heart» transforms the idea of two people who cannot live without each other into a very real-life situation.
Kim Young-kwang plays Baek Ho-rang, the executive director of TS Resort. Behind his cool and perfectly controlled demeanor lies a much more fragile reality: he lives with an artificial heart and must undergo surgery to replace its battery. At the same time, he must also deal with the issue of succession at the TS Group.

Chae Soo-bin plays Na Bo-bae, an author whose life changed dramatically after she was struck by lightning as a child.

Even a simple touch can be dangerous
Ever since that accident, Bo-bae has had a strange electrical ability. The problem? Even the slightest physical contact can electrocute the people around her.
So she learned to live by keeping others at a distance—until she happened to meet Ho-rang. When their lips briefly touched, Bo-bae discovered something unexpected: Electricity doesn't bother him at all.
But that first contact is just the beginning.
On the day Ho-rang is scheduled to undergo surgery, a power outage hits the hospital, and the battery in his artificial heart eventually runs out. That’s when an even more surprising phenomenon occurs: when he is near Bo-bae, his heart begins to recharge.

The young woman, who had always had to avoid physical contact, thus becomes the only person Ho-rang absolutely needs by his side. «Just recharge me for three months, until my next surgery,» he asks her in the teaser.
It's an offer that's hard to turn down, but one that will obviously change their relationship.
Three months to «recharge»… and fall in love?
The situation also comes at a particularly significant time for Bo-bae. With her contract as an author soon coming to an end, her editor assigns her a new project: to write a passionate adult romance novel.
The problem is that her power has actually prevented her from having a normal love life. Ho-rang’s proposal could therefore allow her to finally experience a real relationship while finding the inspiration she needs for her work.
Their agreement thus begins as an arrangement that meets everyone's needs: Ho-rang must stay close enough to her to keep her heart full, while Bo-bae wants to experience the love she is supposed to write about.

The new teaser plays heavily on this paradox and on the forced closeness between two characters who, for entirely different reasons, have lived their lives keeping others at a distance.
With its concept that literally subverts the idea of the ’spark« of love and the encounter between Chae Soo-bin and Kim Young-kwang, «Take Charge of My Heart» is one of the many new releases that will fill what promises to be a particularly busy October for K-dramas.
And this electrifying romance won't wait until the end of the month to be added to the catalog: «Take Charge of My Heart» will be released in its entirety on Netflix on October 9.
