Netflix is working on a new Korean thriller that’s sure to appeal to fans of revenge and action. Tentatively titled «The Shooter» (formerly known as «Granny»), the drama will feature, among others, Lee Jung-eun, Kim Moo-yeol, and Heo Joon-ho in a story in which an ordinary grandmother takes up arms to track down those who attacked her grandson.
The series will mark the reunion of Lee Jung-eun and Kim Moo-yeol, four years after «Juvenile Justice.».
A grandmother who'll stop at nothing to get revenge
At the heart of «The Shooter,» we’ll find Jeong Suk-ja, a woman in her 70s played by Lee Jung-eun. After raising her grandson on her own while working at a restaurant, her life is turned upside down when he is mysteriously attacked and finds himself fighting for his life.
Determined to uncover the truth, Suk-ja decides to conduct the investigation herself. For the first time in decades, she picks up a weapon she knew how to use in her youth and sets out on the trail of the Chunghwa Group, a powerful criminal organization that may be linked to the assault.
A particularly different role for Lee Jung-eun, known for «Parasite,» «Miss Night and Day,» and «Our Blues.».
Kim Moo-yeol becomes his mysterious ally
After «Teach You a Lesson,», Kim Moo-yeol will therefore continue his journey with Netflix in the role of Seo Yeon-woo.
The character approaches Suk-ja and reveals that there is a connection between her grandson’s assault and the Chunghwa Group. Thanks to his ability to gather information and his sound judgment, he quickly becomes a key ally in her quest for revenge.
But his intentions remain a mystery: The real reason why he decided to help Suk-ja is not yet known.
«The Shooter» will, above all, reunite Kim Moo-yeol and Lee Jung-eun four years after they starred together in «Juvenile Justice» in 2022.
Heo Joon-ho at the head of the criminal organization
Facing them, Heo Joon-ho as Jang Kwang-cheol, chairman of the Chunghwa Group and former leader of the Heukseong gang. He will thus be at the very center of the revenge sought by the two main characters.
Netflix has also confirmed Choi Sung-eun, Bae Na-ra, Seo Hyun-woo and Moon Jong-won in the cast. Several of their characters will be directly tied to the inner workings of the Chunghwa Group, while Moon Jong-won will play the owner of a guesthouse with a mysterious past.
With the director of «A Shop for Killers» at the helm and a 70-year-old heroine on a vendetta against a criminal organization, «The Shooter» already promises to be a dark K-drama quite different from traditional revenge stories.
