Following the announcement of its star-studded cast last March, « 100 Days of Lies » (also titled «100 Days of Deception») is finally revealed in its first trailer. tvN's new historical drama, set to premiere in October, offers a first glimpse into its world, which is set during the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Supported by Kim Yoo-jung and Park Jin-young, the series will blend espionage, romance, and the struggle for independence in a particularly ambitious recreation of 1930s Gyeongseong.
Directed by Yoo In-shik, known for «Extraordinary Attorney Woo,» «Dr. Romantic,» and «Vagabond,» the drama is written by Ryu Bo-ri, the screenwriter of «Do You Like Brahms?».
A Secret Mission in the Heart of 1930s Gyeongseong
The teaser immediately plunges viewers into the streets of Gyeongseong in 1932. With Korean and Japanese police officers, colonial-era buildings, and an authentic period atmosphere, the video showcases a particularly meticulous recreation.

Kim You-jung appears in the role of Lee Ga-kyung, the most famous pickpocket in Gyeongseong. As previously announced during the casting reveal, she takes on a particularly dangerous mission: to infiltrate the Japanese Government-General of Korea for 100 days while posing as an apprentice interpreter.

This covert operation leads her to cross paths with Kim Tae-woong, played by Park Jin-young.
Known by his Japanese name, Sato Hideo, he is the adopted son of the Governor-General of Korea and has just been appointed as a top interpreter within the colonial administration. His return to Gyeongseong seems to be closely linked to Lee Ga-kyung’s fate.

The teaser hints at a complex relationship between the two characters, who are torn between their duties, their secrets, and a particularly dangerous political climate.
Characters with conflicting goals
The trailer also highlights the drama's other main characters.
Kim Hyun-joo plays Yoo So-ran, a determined resistance fighter who doesn't hesitate to take up arms to carry out her mission. Ten years after leaving Korea, she returns under a new identity in order to get closer to Sato Shinichi.
Lee Moo-saeng plays Yoo Philip, a correspondent for an American newspaper and a member of the independence movement, who operates discreetly behind the scenes of the colonial regime.
Finally, Jin Sun-kyu plays Sato Shinichi, the powerful governor-general of Korea. His influence and ambitions make him the resistance's primary target.
The teaser thus reinforces the idea that everyone is pursuing their own goals, while alliances and betrayals could become more frequent as the episodes unfold.
Anticipated for several months thanks to its particularly strong cast, «100 Days of Lies» is already shaping up to be one of the major historical dramas of the end of the year.
The series will premiere on October 10 on tvN and Netflix.
