Only three days left until we get to read the new romance by Joy. As the launch of « One of a Kind Romance », the Red Velvet member and her partner Kim Hyun-jin They open up about their characters, their preparation, and what convinced them to join the project.
Two wounded people who find themselves
As a reminder, the series—adapted from a webtoon—follows Gong Yu-il (Joy), an ordinary young woman looking for a job, who accidentally becomes Tak Mu-i’s (Kim Hyun-jin) manager. This huge star hides the emotional scars left by a stalker’s harassment and has found the strength to carry on. thanks to a novel written years earlier… by Yu-il herself.
«A project that offers warm comfort»
What moved Joy the most about the script was the story of two very different people who learn to understand each other’s pain and weaknesses, until they come to accept one another. She saw it as a series capable of offering true comfort.
The actress says she finds her character endearing, and even admirable: despite the difficulties, Gong Yu-il continues to move forward with a radiant energy. A strength that, in her view, comes not only from a positive disposition, but from a true inner resilience, which allows her to get through each day in her own way.
To bring the character to life, Joy wanted to highlight her laid-back and endearing side, without overlooking the fragility that sometimes comes to the surface.
Kim Hyun-jin stays true to the webtoon
Kim Hyun-jin, for his part, was initially interested in how faithfully the screenplay adhered to the original webtoon. He says he was excited about the idea of exploring the different facets of Tak Mu-i while staying as true as possible to the original character.
According to the actor, his character comes across very differently depending on whether he’s working, going about his daily life, or spending time with the person he loves. For the scenes where Tak Mu-i openly expresses his feelings to Gong Yu-il, he discussed them at length with the director and his co-stars to make those moments even more touching.
It’s a demanding role, especially since the actor will also be starring in « Sound:Track », the KBS Drama Special, alongside Woo Davi. The romance won't be smooth sailing: Shin Hyun-soo, as the leading man, and Kang Na-eon, as the actress, will complicate the story of the two main characters.
«One of a Kind Romance» will air starting Monday, November 9, 2026, at 6 p.m. (Korean time), which is 10 a.m. in France, but no legal streaming platform has been announced.
