Episode 7: Can Mi-do and Namgoong Ho Still Save Their Relationship?

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 7.

Since its launch, « A Love Other Than Yours »follows Namgoong Ho and Lee Mi-do, who have been together for 10 years. Their daily life once seemed reassuring. But their feelings are changing, and the arrival of new people in their lives calls into question everything they thought they knew about their relationship.".

In Episode 7, the crisis reaches a new peak: Mi-do admits she has feelings for Han Tae-seung (Lee Joo-ahn). The hurt is all the more acute for Namgoong Ho because he learned from this other man what Mi-do really thought of his passion for film. Tae-seung seems to have awakened something in her. Against all expectations, Namgoong then suggests that she date the lawyer for a while and then decide if she wants to come back to him.

Yet the wounds run deep. A quote from Namgoong Ho, widely shared on X, sums up the pain of the situation: «We should never have met. Let’s walk out of each other’s lives now, before we end up even more broken.»

The episode also shows Mi-do in a state of great psychological distress. One scene in particular left a strong impression on viewers: she remains seated on the floor, her feet injured by the shards of a broken picture frame. Others were concerned after seeing dashcam footage in which she does not appear to be trying to avoid an oncoming car. Many internet users see this as an alarming sign of her distress, even though her intentions cannot be determined with certainty based on this single scene.

On social media, reactions range from sadness to anger to bewilderment. «I really wanted to give her a hug right then,» wrote one viewer on X. Another believes the couple should now go their separate ways: «You’ve saved each other enough. Now, save yourselves.»

Some, however, refuse to give up on the idea of reconciliation. Under the teaser for the next episode on YouTube, one comment reads: «I still support Namgoong and Mi-do. Love goes through different phases, and sometimes you have to forgive and fight for it! » Conversely, others believe that Mi-do’s confession of her feelings for Tae-seung makes their relationship nearly impossible to repair.

In terms of viewership, the series wrapped up the first half of its run with a national average of 2.3 %, according to Nielsen Korea.

Episode 8: A Fight in the Mud and a Proposal That Could Change Everything

The teaser for Episode 8 promises to take the crisis even further. Namgoong Ho had suggested that she date Tae-seung; Mi-do turns the suggestion back on him. Why shouldn't he, too, start seeing another woman?

She’s thinking specifically of Park Soo-ah (Jo Aram), a young colleague of Namgoong Ho’s, and accuses her of having known for a long time that Namgoong Ho has feelings for her. The teaser highlights this line: «So you do it, too. Go see that girl, you too.»

This scene reignites the debate. Some criticize Mi-do for pushing Namgoong toward another woman, even though she seems unable to let him go. Others are primarily concerned for Soo-ah, who risks getting hurt in a relationship with a man who is still emotionally attached to his ex-girlfriend.

The most anticipated moment of the episode, however, is the confrontation between Namgoong Ho and Lee Mi-do on a mudflat. Namgoong Ho is there collecting samples as part of his job. Mi-do comes to meet him there, and their argument escalates into a full-blown physical struggle in the mud.

Ahn Eun-jin explains the significance of this scene: «It’s a scene in which they truly reveal their deepest and most sincere feelings before making their next decision. Every line was both deeply moving and painfully realistic.»

The actress also reveals that the shoot was particularly demanding: «Since it’s a very long scene, we spent the whole day rolling around in the mud to film it. I think it’s even more memorable to me because I really loved it, even though it was very physically demanding.»

These statements suggest that this won't be just another argument, but a turning point for the couple's future. The two characters might finally say what they've been keeping to themselves for so long and make a decision about their relationship.

Below are two teasers for Episode 8:

A romance that's too realistic? Viewers are frustrated, but they keep watching

One reason «A Love Other Than Yours» has generated so much buzz is that the series refuses to tell a simple love story. After 10 years together, Namgoong Ho and Mi-do are grappling with questions that are rarely addressed so directly in traditional romances. Can you love someone while also having feelings for another person? Does staying together still mean being happy? And how do you know whether to fight for your relationship or accept that it’s over?

On social media, some viewers are criticizing Mi-do’s choices. Others point out that Namgoong Ho may also have overlooked his girlfriend’s aspirations. Tae-seung has his defenders, as does Soo-ah, for whom many internet users fear a romantic disappointment.

It is precisely this lack of consensus that seems to captivate part of the audience. One particularly popular comment sums up the contradiction: «This drama drives me crazy, and yet I still love it.» « Another user considers the series »way too mature for the mindset of typical K-drama fans.” Still others praise the way it portrays relationships in which no one is entirely blameless.

«A Love Other Than Yours» doesn’t just focus on who its characters will end up with. The drama explores what becomes of those feelings after a decade, when habit, regrets, and individual desires begin to take over. The confrontation in Episode 8 may finally reveal whether Namgoong Ho and Mi-do truly want to be together again, or if they must learn to live apart.
