Choi Soo-young, better known as Sooyoung (Choi Soo-young), born on February 10, 1990, in Seoul, is a South Korean singer, actress, dancer, and model. She started out in the entertainment industry at a very young age: after winning an audition with some 15,000 participants, she made her debut in Japan as part of the J-pop duo Route 0, active until 2003.
In 2007, she became a member of Girls’ Generation, one of K-pop's iconic groups. Alongside her musical career, she has gradually built a career as an actress. After a few appearances on television and in movies, she landed more prominent roles with The 3rd Hospital in 2012, Dating Agency: Cyrano in 2013 and The Spring Day of My Life in 2014. This series earned him, among other honors, an Award of Excellence at the MBC Drama Awards.
She continues by saying 38 Task Force in 2016, and then People You May Know and Man in the Kitchen in 2017. Starting in 2020, she went on to play several memorable roles: Detective Cha Soo-young in Tell Me What You Saw, Seo Dan-ah in Run On, followed by Lee Geun-young in the romantic comedy So I Married an Anti-Fan. She also appears as a guest on Move to Heaven.
In 2022, she played the role of Seo Yeon-joo in If You Wish Upon Me (Tell Me Your Wish) and Han Gang-hee's in Fan Letter, Please. The following year, she played Kim Jin-hee in Not Others.
Her acting career continued in 2025 with two leading roles: Han Geum-joo in Extremely Sensitive Alcoholic and Maeng Se-na in Idol Kid. In 2026, she also appears in The Practical Guide to Love. Two projects are scheduled for 2027: Not Others Season 2, where she is set to reprise the role of Kim Jin-hee, and I'm Back from School, in which she is cast in the lead role of Kang Eun-ho.
On the big screen, Sooyoung has appeared in, among others, Hello, Schoolgirl, Miss & Mrs. Cops, Memories of a Dead End and New Year's Eve. She has also been announced as the lead in’Okay! Madam 2 in 2026.
At the same time, she remains very active in music and television. She continues to be a member of Girls’ Generation Despite leaving SM Entertainment in 2017, she played a key role in the group’s comeback in 2022. She is also a songwriter: she has written or co-written several Girls’ Generation songs, including How Great Is Your Love, Baby Maybe, Sailing, Seventeen and Villain.
