Ten years of trying to make the audience laugh without ever making it big. That’s the daily life of the characters in Kang Hoon and Cho Hyun-chul in « Happy Anding », the new drama from tvN which has just revealed its first script reading as well as its air date.
This series follows the journey of three comedians who have remained unknown for a decade. However, their encounter with a mysterious young woman will prompt them to envision a different future.
Directed by Jung Ji-hyun, with a screenplay by Ahn Ah-reum and created by Yang Hee-seung, «Happy Anding» stars Kang Hoon, Cho Hyun-chul, Kim Jung-jin, Lee Yi-dam, Moon Hee, and Yoon Ga-yi.
Kang Hoon and Cho Hyun-chul are pursuing a dream that has lasted for ten years
Kang Hoon plays Kang Tae-gu, the leader of the comedy trio Asura. Despite spending 10 years in obscurity, he continues to hold on to his passion for comedy, as well as his sense of responsibility toward the other members of the group. However, the realities of the profession eventually catch up with him and force him to question the future of his career.
Alongside him, Cho Hyun-chul plays Kim Nam-il, another member of Asura, who faces a more personal dilemma. He has been in a relationship with Lee Na-yeon (Moon Hee) for 10 years, but his dream of becoming a comedian is beginning to strain their relationship.
Na-yeon, however, has a stable life, both at home and at work. It is mainly the comments from those around her about her relationship with an actor who is still unknown that are beginning to shake her confidence.
Kim Jung-jin plays Han Jun-seo, the trio's particularly frugal manager. While he is warm toward Tae-gu and Nam-il, he is much more reserved with people outside their circle.
A fan could change their future
Lee Yi-dam plays Go Eun-young, a particularly devoted fan of Asura. Reserved and accustomed to keeping to herself, she hides an exceptional passion for the group behind her apparent passivity. Her encounter with the band members will gradually bring about a change in her own life.
Yoon Ga-yi plays Go Ji-young, her younger sister, whose free-spirited nature and lifestyle are in stark contrast to Eun-young’s. The two characters met during the first script reading, and tvN has released photos and a behind-the-scenes video from the event.
The production describes «Happy Anding» as a story about young adults who face life’s setbacks and obstacles together. Rather than focusing solely on artistic success, the drama will seek to show how each character tries to prepare for a new tomorrow, even when their dreams seem to be slipping away.
It remains to be seen whether the members of Asura will finally find their place after 10 years of effort, or whether their true success will take a form entirely different from what they had imagined.
