While the Korean TV network JTBC is currently undergoing a major financial restructuring, the network intends to continue its operations and, above all, reassure viewers about the future of its productions. On July 31, it unveiled part of its lineup for the coming months, as well as several highly anticipated dramas for 2027.
Coming up: Ahn Hyo-seop in « Final Table«, Ahn Bo-hyun in « Sacred Jewel«, but also future dramas from Kim Hee-ae and Jun Ji-hyun.
«Final Table» will kick things off in October
JTBC’s next major project will be «Final Table,» which is now confirmed to air in October 2026. Starring Ahn Hyo-seop, Hong Hwa-yeon, Jang Ryul, and Jung Eugene, the drama will follow a competition bringing together chefs from around the world to determine the best Korean chef.
The project also marks the collaboration between Ahn Hyo-seop and director Kim Do-hoon, best known for «The Moon Embracing the Sun.».
«Sacred Jewel» will then take over
Following «Final Table,» JTBC will air «Sacred Jewel,» its ambitious historical fantasy drama set during the Goryeo period.
The series features a particularly impressive cast, including Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Sung-min, Claudia Kim, Ha Yoon-kyung, and Yoon Kyun-sang. Jung Dae-yoon, director of «Reborn Rich,» is helming the project. The drama had already attracted attention after being selected for Canneseries.
Kim Hee-ae in «Gold Digger» in 2027
JTBC is also beginning to reveal its plans for 2027. Notably, Kim Hee-ae will star in « Gold Digger«, a mysterious romantic melodrama centered on a successful middle-aged woman and an attractive young man who enters her life. This drama was originally scheduled for October 2026.
As their relationship develops, each begins to question the other’s true intentions, caught between attraction, mistrust, and misunderstandings.
Following her standout performance in «The World of the Married,» Kim Hee-ae is expected to return to a particularly intense role.
«Human X Gumiho» Confirmed for the First Half of 2027
Another highly anticipated project: « Human X Gumiho«, now scheduled for the first half of 2027 (we had most recently heard it was set for late January 2027). The drama will star Jun Ji-hyun, Ji Chang-wook, and Cha Joo-young, while Hwang In-youp and Kim Seol-hyun are set to make special appearances.
This fantasy romantic comedy will tell the story of the encounter between a creature capable of seducing humans and a human who, conversely, has the unique ability to attract supernatural beings. The drama will be directed by Kim Jung-sik («Strong Girl Nam-soon»), based on a screenplay by Im Meari («The Beauty Inside»).
JTBC plans to continue its productions as usual
These announcements come at a particularly challenging time for the network. On July 29, the court overseeing the restructuring proceedings decided to extend the proceedings by one month ARS (Autonomous Restructuring Support) regarding JTBC.
The company apologized to its creditors and explained that it is waiting for the report from the court-appointed accounting firm before it can make more concrete progress in the negotiations.
JTBC, however, seeks to reassure viewers regarding its programming: «We have now reached the point where the production and broadcast of our programs—which had been somewhat unstable—have returned to completely normal.»
The network also says it intends to continue its operations as usual while cutting expenses deemed unnecessary in order to focus its resources on content production. «We will continue our broadcasting and management activities as usual. […] This is about keeping our promise to viewers, but also about fulfilling our responsibilities to our creditors by quickly stabilizing our operations using the revenue we generate.»
Despite its still-uncertain financial situation, JTBC intends to demonstrate that its major projects remain very much on track, with a programming schedule that now extends through 2027.
