Sacred Jewel

The story takes place in 1258, during the Goryeo Dynasty. For nearly thirty years, Korea has been resisting Mongol invasions, and the kingdom is on the brink of defeat.

It is against this desperate backdrop that an expeditionary force is sent into battle in search of a sacred relic: the Pearl of Avalokiteshvara. According to legend, it possesses the divine power to protect the nation. Meanwhile, a princess will seek to save those who are risking their lives to bring it back.

Ahn Bo-hyun plays Baek Gyeol, the young commander tasked with escorting the precious pearl. A member of the royal guard, he leads a special mission alongside the warriors of the Yabyeolcho, an elite unit that actually existed during that period.

But Baek Gyeol isn't just setting out for his homeland. He is in love with the emperor's daughter—a feeling that adds a romantic dimension to this perilous quest.

Lee Sung-min, the veteran who's seen it all

To carry out this mission, the still-inexperienced Baek Gyeol will be supported by Choi Gu, played by Lee Sung-min, who rose to fame through «Reborn Rich.» As the leader of the Yabyeolcho, Goryeo’s elite unit, he has survived countless battles.

The first images show him armed with a bow and a sword, his face marked by the passage of time and scars, his gaze so piercing that it intimidates his opponents in an instant. Among the young recruits, a belief is spreading: by his side, we have a chance to survive.

But years of war have also confronted him with the harsh reality of the battlefield. It remains to be seen what fate awaits him on this perilous mission, which could very well be one too many.

Claudia Kim, the Princess Who Shut Herself Off from the World

Far from the front lines, Claudia Kim plays Princess Wang Hee, the emperor’s youngest daughter. A political marriage and a painful loss have led her to close her heart to the world.

Cold and indifferent to the opinions of others, she spends her days bored at Gyeonghwa Palace. That is, until she meets Baek Gyeol, a young commander full of passion and innocence, with whom she falls in love. The feeling is mutual, since Baek Gyeol is also in love with her.

Since the synopsis mentions a princess trying to save the expedition, we can guess that Wang Hee won’t remain locked up in her palace forever.

Ha Yoon-kyung, a bar owner turned tour guide

Ha Yun-kyung, best known for her role in « Extraordinary Attorney Woo » or, more recently, in « The Apartment Job«, played by Geol Seung. Formerly the proprietress of Cheongru, a tavern in the market on Ganghwa Island, she is one of the key figures connected to the sacred pearl. Ganghwa is by no means an insignificant setting: the Goryeo court had taken refuge there during the Mongol invasions.”.

At Baek Gyeol’s (Ahn Bo-hyun) request, Geol Seung joins the escort convoy, to support its mission to protect the kingdom. The new images show her in her two roles: behind the counter of her tavern, and then leading the expedition. Pragmatic by nature, Geol Seung’s life is turned upside down by Baek Gyeol’s arrival. But she proves perfectly capable of surviving, even among the warriors of the Yabyeolcho, Goryeo’s elite unit.

Behind his cunning nature and outspoken manner lie a warm heart and a deep Buddhist faith. This detail takes on its full meaning in a quest centered on a relic linked to Avalokiteshvara, a major figure in Buddhism.
