Kim Young-kwang and Chae Soo-bin will have to stay very close in « Take Charge of My Heart » («Recharge My Heart» in English), and not just for the sake of their romance. In this fantasy romantic comedy adapted from a web novel, the actor plays Baek Ho-rang, a cold and unflappable man whose artificial heart is running low on battery power. Chae Soo-bin plays Na Bo-bae, a young woman capable of generating electricity… and the only person who can recharge it.
With just a few days to go before its release, Netflix has just unveiled the main poster and a new trailer that provides a broader look at their story. An unlikely encounter quickly leads Ho-rang and Bo-bae to strike a deal: for three months, they will live together so that she can literally keep her heart functioning.
Chae Soo-bin finally finds a man she can touch
On the main poster, Bo-bae appears surrounded by pink electrical currents, while Ho-rang stands by her side with his usual detached expression. This closeness already sums up what makes their relationship so unique. For Bo-bae, her power has long felt more like a curse than a blessing. Her daily life is disrupted by the electricity she generates—until she meets Ho-rang.
For the first time, she finds herself facing someone who seems completely immune to her outbursts.
The trailer then shows her clinging to him, clearly fascinated by this discovery. «Didn’t you feel anything? Like a tingle or a spark?» she asks him, while Ho-rang seems mostly embarrassed by this sudden closeness.
But their situation soon reverses. When the battery in Ho-rang’s artificial heart runs low, Bo-bae’s electrical abilities suddenly become indispensable. Above all, he discovers that his heart recharges faster the closer he gets to her physically.
So anyone who was able to tolerate his electricity without difficulty now finds themselves in a much more precarious situation: they need Bo-bae to keep their heart beating.
Kim Young-kwang asks him to «save him for three months»
Ho-rang also has another reason to resolve his problem quickly. As he works to secure his succession as head of the TS Group, his heart condition could jeopardize his plans.
So he offers Bo-bae a particularly straightforward solution: to live together so he can «recharge» more easily. «Just save me for three months,» he asks her.
Bo-bae also sees the value in this arrangement. With her own love life at a standstill, she’s looking for new experiences to add to a «romance bucket list» that’s meant to help her finish writing a drama script.
Their respective needs thus give rise to a «charging agreement»: he literally needs his electricity, while she plans to take advantage of this living arrangement to explore the romance that’s missing from her writing. But their arrangement as a couple isn’t likely to last very long.
Ji Eun-ho (Cha Woo-min), a big star who also happens to be Bo-bae’s number-one fan, enters the story and sets the stage for a love triangle. Choi Do-yoon (Jung Jae-kwang), the troublemaker of the group TS, and Han Seol-hee (Shin Do-hyun), an ambitious strategist, also complicate the situation.
Between the TS group’s succession, the cohabitation agreement, the arrival of a romantic rival, and a heart whose rhythm depends directly on the closeness between its two heroes, the main trailer sets the stage for the various elements that are sure to fuel the romance in «Take Charge of My Heart.».
The series will be available starting on October 9 on Netflix, in its entirety.
