It’s one of the most anticipated thrillers of the fall: « The Perfect Lie » premieres on October 30 on MBC in Korea and on Disney+. However, once again, many European subscribers will be left out in the cold. The drama, which stars Yoo Yeon-seok and Seo Hyun-jin «10 Years After »Dr. Romantic'" does appear in the platform's UK catalog, but remains unavailable in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium, Germany, and other countries…

Yet another Disney+ K-drama missing from parts of Europe
The situation feels like déjà vu. As of this writing, «The Perfect Lie» is clearly visible on Disney+ in the United Kingdom, but is missing from the catalog in France and Italy.

A scenario that brings to mind exactly like the one in «Between Steps» in early October. When Kim So-hyun and Choo Young-woo’s romance series premiered, it was unavailable in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Germany, while subscribers in the United Kingdom, Canada, and Japan were able to watch it as usual. Everything suggests that Disney+ has, once again, failed to acquire the streaming rights for several European markets.
This is therefore the third K-drama this month that isn’t available everywhere, following «Your Personal Taxi»—which was announced on Netflix but is available only in Korea—and «Between Steps.» For European subscribers, the situation is becoming frustrating: just because a drama is announced as coming «to Disney+» doesn’t necessarily mean it will be available on them Disney+.
A psychological thriller in which one of the two is lying
What makes this absence all the more regrettable is the series« potential. Directed by Jo Young-min, who also directed “ You and Everything Else », «The Perfect Lie» is based on a concept that is as simple as it is effective: a man and a woman give two completely opposing accounts of the same memory. And one of them is lying.
Yoo Yeon-seok plays Min Joon-ho, a man known for never lying. Seo Hyun-jin plays Kang Ji-sun, who insists with equal conviction that her version of events is the only true one. Caught between them, investigator Lee Hwa-young, played by Ok Ja-yeon, tries to sort out what is true from what is false.

A First Date That Was Too Perfect
Before the suspicions arose, there was the encounter. New stills from the first episode reveal this moment, set on a beach to the rhythm of the waves. Kang Ji-sun has just stepped out of the water after a surfing session, and Min Joon-ho smiles as he hands her a can of coffee. She looks at him with obvious tenderness.
A scene straight out of a romantic comedy, which stands in stark contrast to the confrontation to come. According to the production team, the first episode will chronologically recount their meeting, their budding attraction, and then their seemingly perfect date… before the incident that turns everything upside down.

Twelve episodes in three chapters
The drama, which consists of 12 episodes, can be watched in three parts, according to Seo Hyun-jin: episodes 1 through 4, 5 through 8, and then 9 through 12. At each stage, the actress hopes viewers will keep asking themselves who is lying.
«The Perfect Lie» premieres this Friday, October 30, at 9:50 p.m. in Korea on MBC, which is 1:50 p.m. in France. It is also available on Disney+ in certain territories, such as the United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada, but not in France at the time of its launch. This is a situation we can only regret, yet again: by depriving part of the audience of legal access, it pushes fans toward illegal streaming and, above all, leaves those who were looking forward to the series truly disappointed.
