Yoo Yeon-seok's daily life is about to be turned upside down in « The Perfect Lie ». After the first posters that highlighted his opposition to Seo Hyun-jin, MBC's upcoming psychological thriller, has released new stills featuring its character, Min Joon-ho, a respected heart surgeon who has been raising his son alone since his wife's death.
Known for his honesty and the trust he inspires in those around him, this man seems to have his life perfectly under control. However, an unexpected encounter with Kang Ji-sun (Seo Hyun-jin) will gradually call everything into question. And the new photos already show Joon-ho in a situation far removed from his usual surroundings: alone in a dimly lit interrogation room.
A perfectionist surgeon and a caring father
In «The Perfect Lie,», Yoo Yeon-seok plays Min Joon-ho, a doctor specializing in cardiac surgery who does not tolerate even the slightest mistake once he enters the operating room.
His professional rigor has earned him the trust of many people. But behind this particularly demanding demeanor lies a man who is much more approachable in his private life. Since his wife’s death, Joon-ho has been raising his son on his own. Despite the responsibilities that come with his job and his role as a father, he retains a sense of humor and innocence, a far cry from the stern image he may project at the hospital.
A first photo shows him surrounded by medical staff, focused and with a serious expression on his face before an operation.
However, this stability begins to waver when he happens to meet Kang Ji-sun. For the first time in a long while, Joon-ho once again feels curiosity and a certain excitement at the prospect of getting to know someone. This encounter, rather than offering him a peaceful fresh start, will gradually turn his life upside down.
How did Yoo Yeon-seok end up in an interrogation room?
The second image stands in stark contrast to the first. This time, there are no medical staff or operating rooms: Min Joon-ho is shown sitting alone in a dark room, staring at someone across from him. The scene resembles an interrogation room, though it does not reveal the circumstances that led him there.
It is precisely this mystery that will form the basis of «The Perfect Lie.» Directed by Jo Young-min («You and Everything Else»), the thriller will follow a man and a woman who give completely contradictory accounts of the same memory. Joon-ho and Ji-sun will thus find themselves pitted against each other as they try to determine what really happened.
The first posters for the series had already posed the question with a particularly intriguing line: «One of them is lying.»
Joon-ho's reputation for honesty has now taken on added significance. Why has a surgeon and family man whom everyone trusts found himself in such a situation? And does his account of events really match the truth?
The production team explains that the character will face completely unexpected circumstances, which will trigger significant emotional changes. They also praise Yoo Yeon-seok’s performance, noting that the actor perfectly brought his own interpretation of Min Joon-ho to life.
For his reunion with Seo Hyun-jin following «Dr. Romantic,» Yoo Yeon-seok is expected to explore a very different kind of relationship, one in which trust and memories themselves will become subjects of doubt.
«The Perfect Lie» will premiere on October 30 at 9:50 p.m. (Korean time) on MBC and, it appears, on Disney+.
