Choi Sung-eun (최성은) is a South Korean actress born on June 17, 1996, in Seoul. After studying at Kaywon School of the Arts and then at the Korea National University of Arts, she began her career in several short films before gaining recognition in theater and film.
In 2019, she landed her first major role in the film Start-Up, in which she plays So Kyeong-joo alongside Ma Dong-seok, Park Jung-min, and Jung Hae-in. Her performance earned her the Best New Actress award at the Chunsa Film Art Awards. She then confirmed her potential with the independent film Ten Months, in which she plays Choi Mi-rae, a role for which she won an award at the Buil Film Awards.
On television, she appeared in 2020 in the episode Joan's Galaxy from the anthology series SF8. The following year, she gained recognition thanks to the thriller Beyond Evil, also known as Monster, in which she plays Yoo Jae-yi. Her performance earned her a nomination for Best New Actress in Television at the Baeksang Arts Awards.
In 2022, Choi Sung-eun plays the lead role of Yoon Ah-yi in the Netflix fantasy series The Sound of Magic, alongside Ji Chang-wook and Hwang In-youp. In it, she plays a high school student facing serious financial difficulties who meets a mysterious magician. That same year, she played prosecutor Kim Hwa-jin in the crime thriller Gentleman.
In 2024, she appeared in the Netflix movie My name is Loh Kiwan, in which she plays Marie, a former Belgian markswoman who meets a North Korean refugee played by Song Joong-ki.
In 2025, she returned to television in the lead role of Song Ha-gyeong in Last Summer. In 2026, she also starred in the thriller Road, in which she plays a government agent.
Despite her still relatively short filmography, Choi Sung-eun has quickly made a name for herself through her choice of challenging roles and her ability to transition seamlessly between independent films, thrillers, fantasy, and romantic dramas.
