Han Suk-kyu (한석규; 韓石圭) is a South Korean actor born on November 3, 1964, in Seoul. After making his debut on radio and television in the early 1990s, he quickly established himself as one of the most prominent figures in the revival of Korean cinema. His charisma, distinctive voice, and understated acting style helped him become one of the country’s biggest stars by the second half of the 1990s.
He then went on to produce a string of hits that have become classics, including Green Fish, No. 3, Contact, Christmas in August and the blockbuster Shiri, considered one of the films that paved the way for modern Korean cinema. Over the years, it has cemented its status with The Scarlet Letter, The President's Last Bang, The Agent, The Royal Tailor, The Prison and Forbidden Dream, alternating between intimate dramas, thrillers, and historical epics.
After several years spent primarily in film, Han Suk-kyu is making a highly anticipated return to television with Dr. Romantic, in which he plays the brilliant and unconventional surgeon Kim Sa-bu. Aired from 2016 to 2023, the series was a huge hit and became one of Korea’s most popular medical franchises. He then showcased his talent in the psychological thriller Doubt (2024).
In 2025, he played the lead role in Shin's Project, before returning to television in 2027 with Got It. He has also been announced as part of the cast of Speaking Dead, in which he plays Jang Jae-uk.
Han Suk-kyu, who has received numerous awards throughout his career, is now considered one of the greatest actors in the history of South Korean film and television, admired for the subtlety of his performances and the exceptional longevity of his career.
