Biography

Kim Sung-cheol (Kim Seong-cheol), born on December 31, 1991, in Seoul, is a South Korean actor who trained at the Korea National University of Arts. Before becoming a familiar face in K-dramas, he made a name for himself on stage in musicals, notably winning the Best New Actor award at the Korea Musical Awards for Sweeney Todd.

He made his television debut in 2017 in Prison Playbook, where his portrayal of «Jailbird,» Kim Je-hyuk’s cellmate, marked his first standout role. He followed that with the musical romance To: Jenny, and then appears in Player. In 2019, he broadened his repertoire with The Wind Blows and especially the fantastical mural Arthdal Chronicles, in which he plays Ipsaeng.

In 2020, Kim Sung-cheol plays Han Hyun-ho, a cellist caught in a love triangle, in the musical melodrama Do You Like Brahms?. That same year, he made appearances in Hospital Playlist and Sweet Home. He then made a particularly strong impression in Vincenzo in 2021, thanks to his memorable portrayal of Hwang Min-sung, before joining Our Beloved Summer. In this romance, which has become one of his most iconic dramas, he plays Kim Ji-woong, a documentary filmmaker who is secretly in love with his longtime friend.

After an appearance in Death's Game, Kim Sung-cheol returns in 2024 in significantly darker productions. In No Way Out: The Roulette, he plays Pastor Sung Joon-woo. Most importantly, he reprises the role of Jung Jin-soo in Season 2 of Hellbound, taking over from Yoo Ah-in in one of the series' leading roles.

In 2026, he appears as Seo Mi-rae's ex-boyfriend in Boyfriend on Demand, and then plays one of the leading roles in Gold Land, playing the role of Jang Uk, nicknamed «Woo-gi.» His television career is set to continue with The Sleeping Doctor, a medical drama slated for 2027, confirming a particularly eclectic blend of romance, thriller, and fantasy.
