After introducing the family of Kim So-hyun, « Between Steps »This time, it focuses on university life at Choo Young-woo. New images show the researchers who will be working alongside Park Min-jae at Seohan University’s robotics laboratory, as well as several professors who will be working with them.
«Between Steps» tells the story of the romance between Park Min-jae (Choo Young-woo), a former swimmer who lost his right leg due to an illness, and Im Yoo-jin (Kim So-hyun), a graduate student who is searching for a new direction after finding herself lost on her own path.
The drama is one of director Ahn Pan-seok’s latest works; he is best known for «Something in the Rain,» «One Spring Night,» and «The Midnight Romance in Hagwon.».
Choo Young-woo, surrounded by a team of people with very different personalities
The new photos feature Park Min-jae and the other members of the robotics research lab led by Professor Ahn Jae-hong.
Lee Gyu-sung plays Uhm Tae-ho, considered the team’s mastermind, while Lee Suk-hyeong plays Bae Chan-soo, a researcher with a simple, laid-back personality. Kim Min plays Choi Han-gyul, the group’s «eternal baby.».
A new member is also joining the team: Kim Se-jin, played by Im Jin-hyo. A graduate student, he also works with Im Yoo-jin in her research lab.
Gathered around a table in the opening scenes, the researchers have a deliberately down-to-earth look that reflects the everyday lives of these engineering students. But their lab will clearly serve as more than just a backdrop for Min-jae’s research: the four members’ very different personalities should also bring a healthy dose of humor to the drama.
Choo Young-woo, in fact, has particularly fond memories of that group dynamic.
«It was always a set where everyone showed consideration and respect for one another. I enjoyed going to shoot, and since we had such great chemistry when we acted together, I felt that the members of the lab formed a very close-knit team,» he explains. The actor adds that everyone has «a distinct personality and their own unique flair,» which naturally created a special energy when they were all together.
Professors from Seohan University also take the stage
These new images also introduce us to several members of the faculty. Lee Chang-hoon plays Ahn Jae-hong, a professor of mechanical engineering and robotics with a particularly exuberant personality, who heads the lab where Min-jae works.
Jang In-sub plays Lee Ji-hoon, a math genius who has become the department’s youngest tenured professor. Ryu Kyung-in plays Kang Mi-ran, a professor in the Department of Apparel Design whose behavior varies greatly depending on who she is dealing with: she is strict with her subordinates but much more accommodating toward her superiors.
Kim So-hyun also confirms that this lighthearted atmosphere wasn’t limited to the promotional photos. «There was always a lot of laughter on set,» says the actress. She explains that the actors exchanged many ideas and that each person’s well-defined role allowed them to develop a particularly fun dynamic.
These new characters are expected to expand the world of «Between Steps» beyond its central romance and showcase another side of Min-jae and Yoo-jin’s daily lives, from their research and college life to their relationships with colleagues.
«Between Steps» will begin airing on October 5 at 10 p.m. (Korean time) on ENA and on Disney+ worldwide.
