After the couple’s first steps, it’s time for their first conflicts… and their first declarations. Airing on October 20, the sixth episode of « Between Steps »put the budding relationship between Park Min-jae (Choo Young-woo) and Im Yoo-jin (Kim So-hyun), before treating them to a moment fans had been waiting for from the very beginning. And next week, the story will take center stage with another budding couple.

A couple learning to understand each other
At the end of the previous episode, Min-jae—a former swimmer who had his right leg amputated due to an illness—and Yoo-jin, a master’s student searching for a new path, had made their relationship official. But the initial euphoria didn’t last very long.
Episode 6 pitted them against their first misunderstandings during a tense conversation in which Yoo-jin struggled to hide her frustration with a flustered Min-jae. As the production team had announced, once the excitement of the early days wore off, the two young people would have to face unexpected obstacles. That’s the whole point of the series, which focuses on realistic relationship stories that everyone can relate to.
Facing Min-jae's mother
Another key moment: the meeting between Yoo-jin and Hong Eun-joo, Min-jae’s mother, played by Shim Hye-jin. While Hong Eun-joo welcomes her with a warm and elegant smile, Yoo-jin is unable to hide her nervousness. This scene hints that the family’s opinion could influence the couple’s future.
A much-anticipated statement
But the episode really stood out to fans for one reason: Min-jae finally said the words «I love you.» On social media, many are hailing this moment as a reward for Yoo-jin’s efforts, as she had never really hidden her feelings. Her love is now fully reciprocated.
Other lighter scenes also drew reactions. At a wedding, Min-jae breaks into song… without taking his eyes off Yoo-jin, instead of looking at the newlyweds. Viewers also laughed a lot watching Yoo-jin explore every nook and cranny of her boyfriend’s house, even going so far as to inspect his bed with boundless enthusiasm.
Episode 7: Min-jae Plays Matchmaker
The preview for Episode 7 introduces a new storyline. In it, Se-jin falls head over heels in love with Su-bin at first sight. And it’s Min-jae who decides to give him a hand in winning her heart. This lighter storyline could offer the narrative a welcome breather, in keeping with the bittersweet tone the series has promised.

The final film by the late director Ahn Pan-seok, known for «Something in the Rain» and «One Spring Night,» «Between Steps» continues to delicately portray the awkward moments of young lovers.
Episode 7 will air on Monday, October 26, at 10 p.m. (Korean time) on ENA and will be available on Disney+. This series is not available in Europe.
