After revealing the chemistry between his actors during the script reading and then the childhood memories of his characters, « Love on the Menu » continues its promotional campaign with a new, particularly moving teaser.".
The video focuses on the relationship between Kim Moo-jin and Han Gyu-rim, two former lovers who reunite after eight years apart. And while their feelings for each other seem to still be there, the wounds of the past and the challenges of the present are already complicating their reunion.
Han Gyu-rim tries to push Kim Moo-jin away
The teaser begins with Han Gyu-rim, played by Hani, trying to put some distance between herself and Kim Moo-jin.
Aware of her difficult personal situation, she prefers to push away the man she once loved.
She tells him, «Let’s stop here.» The young woman then reveals the reality of her daily life: «I’m really poor, I have no savings, I have four younger brothers and sisters to support, and I haven’t even finished college.»
These lines echo previous portrayals of the character, which described Gyu-rim as a woman who gave up her own dreams to support her family.
In fact, Hani had explained during the script reading that she had been moved by her character’s strength and sacrifices.
A relationship marked by regrets
As the teaser progresses, the atmosphere grows darker.
Han Gyu-rim, convinced that she’s a burden to Kim Moo-jin, tells him, «Clinging to me would be the worst possible move.»
Then she adds, «If I have bad thoughts, I might cling to you and never let you go. So consider this a blessing from heaven and run away quickly.»
These words offer a glimpse into the regrets, hurt, and guilt that seem to have haunted both characters since their separation eight years earlier.
The series had already portrayed Kim Moo-jin as a man who had sacrificed everything for love, while Gyu-rim had chosen to put her family before her own feelings.
«I won't run away»
Despite Gyu-rim’s rejection, Kim Moo-jin refuses to give up. Played by Ha Seok-jin, the character simply replies, «No, I don’t want to.»
He then pulls Gyu-rim into his arms before adding, «I won’t run away.» This scene perfectly captures the couple’s dynamic: a woman convinced she doesn’t deserve to be loved and a man determined to stay by her side despite the obstacles.
The production team had already highlighted the chemistry between Ha Seok-jin and Hani during the script reading, describing their relationship as a blend of nostalgia, regret, and warmth.
Alongside the lead duo, Park You-na, Bae Jung-nam, Kwon Hae-hyo, Yoon Yoo-sun, Ryu Seung-soo, and Jin Kyung will also enrich this family story.
«Love on the Menu» will air starting July 25 at 8 p.m. on KBS2.
