A Global Success

The numbers speak for themselves. As soon as its first four episodes were released on October 15, the series climbed to third place among the most-watched dramas on TVING in Korea. But it was on the international stage that it truly shone: it topped Viki’s weekly charts in the Americas, Europe, and Oceania, and ranked second on Disney+ in Japan.

CJ ENM, which produced the drama, is sharing updates about its success on Instagram.

A great achievement for a series with a bold premise: a young woman from a traditional family who finds herself working at a adult product startup.

A Romance Without the Old Clichés

Much of this success stems from what the series didn't do. While so many K-dramas rely on the same tropes, «Make Me Tingle» opted for a simple and sincere romance. Yeon-su (Nam Ji-hyun) was the first to confess her feelings, and Dal (Kim Jae-young), who for a long time was unable to open up to others, finally realized that he was in love.

The real obstacle wasn't a rival, but the weight of family traditions. And that's exactly what resonated with the audience: a heroine who must learn to choose her own path in the face of expectations that aren't her own.

A heroine who gains her independence

The ending stays true to this theme. After leaving her family home following a conflict with her mother, Yeon-su first moves in with Dal, then eventually moves into her own apartment. This is a crucial step: she isn’t running away from her family for a man, but to live by her own rules.

Her reconciliation with her mother, Seo Baek-hee (Woo Mi-hwa), is one of the most beautiful scenes in the episode. At her husband’s grave, on the couple’s wedding anniversary, the mother confides that she, too, made choices out of love, without realizing that she was trapping her children in the same pattern. Dal, for his part, manages to win the trust of his grandfather, the family’s uncompromising patriarch.

A ring… but not a wedding ring

True to its theme, the series defies expectations with its ending. When Dal pulls out a small box, Yeon-su panics: she doesn't want to get married—not yet. The box actually contains matching rings.

The series concludes with a powerful message: marriage isn’t the inevitable outcome of a love story. Yeon-su and Dal will know when the time is right. In the meantime, they’re enjoying the present. As for Loand, Dal’s startup, it’s opening its first store in a department store—and it’s an instant success.

Fans are won over

On social media, reactions have been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Many are hailing it as the kind of romantic comedy we haven’t seen in a long time—funny, tender, and full of heart. French-speaking viewers also appreciate its take on society: the weight of traditions, family expectations, and stereotypes about love and intimacy, set against a backdrop of young people who want to make their own life choices.

Nam Ji-hyun has been particularly praised for her portrayal of Yeon-su’s evolution from a young woman trapped by tradition to a woman who forges her own path. The actress said she was most struck by her character’s attitude toward life and the way she embraces challenges as a means of personal growth.

A Few Regrets

That said, not everything is perfect. Some viewers feel the ending is a bit rushed. Several subplots wrap up in just a few minutes, and some viewers regret that the grandfather is never truly held accountable for his wrongdoings toward his granddaughter. These reservations, however, do not diminish the audience’s affection for the series.
