With less than a month to go before its release, « The East Palace »is beginning to lift the veil on his world.".
Netflix has unveiled the first set of images from the historical fantasy drama starring Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo and Cho Seung-woo. These new stills highlight the opulent yet unsettling atmosphere of the royal palace, where a mysterious curse seems to be wreaking havoc.
A Haunted Mansion at the Center of Unexplained Events
«The East Palace» tells the story of Gu Cheon, a man capable of traveling between the world of the living and the spirit world, and Saeng Gang, a court lady who also hides a significant secret. Both are summoned by the king to investigate a series of supernatural events plaguing the palace.
The new images show the king, played by Cho Seung-woo, in a variety of situations. In one of them, he appears deeply concerned as he holds Prince Yeongan in his arms. In another, his gaze turns much colder as he forces Gu Cheon to kneel before him.
These contrasts are already raising many questions about the monarch’s true intentions, as he appears to officially reject any belief in ghosts and curses while seeking the help of the famous «ghost hunter.».
Nam Joo-hyuk and Roh Yoon-seo Face a Supernatural Threat
The photos also highlight the perilous mission that awaits the two heroes.
In particular, Gu Cheon is shown walking through a pond with a rope around his neck, while Saeng Gang is shown drawing a bow, ready to face a danger that is still unknown.
Other images reveal a more supernatural side to Nam Joo-hyuk’s character. Surrounded by a strange red aura in the spirit world, he displays a determination that hints at particularly intense confrontations.
For her part, Saeng Gang seems able to sense the invisible presences haunting the palace. Focused on the voices and sounds coming from the spirit world, she could play a key role in solving the mystery.
Based on these first glimpses, «The East Palace» promises to be a blend of supernatural thriller, historical drama, and fantasy, featuring a highly anticipated cast.
«The East Palace» will be available in its entirety on July 17 on Netflix («Le palais de l’Est» in French).
