With just a few days to go before its release, Netflix continues to unveil the world of « Notes from the Last Row » through a new series of images highlighting the main characters of this psychological thriller. And if you’re still not quite sure whether to add this drama to your watchlist, its star-studded cast should do the trick.

Adapted from the Spanish play of the same name, the series will follow the gradual shift from a literature professor to an obsession that could turn his whole life upside down.

A struggling writer fascinated by a mysterious student

Choi Min-sik plays Heo Mun-oh, a former writer who became a professor of Korean literature after failing to publish a new novel for twenty years.

His life is turned upside down when he discovers the exceptional writing talent of Lee Kang, a quiet student played by Choi Hyun-wook. Always sitting in the back row of the classroom, the young man quickly caught his teacher’s attention.

The new footage shows Heo Mun-oh visiting the grocery store where Lee Kang works part-time. While the student remains cold and distant, the teacher makes repeated attempts to get closer to him.

What begins as an academic relationship seems to gradually evolve into something much more complex, where fascination, admiration, and obsession intertwine in a dangerous way.

Rivalries, regrets, and family tensions

The stills also reveal several characters who contribute to Heo Mun-oh's frustrations and emotional wounds.

Among them is Kim Su-hun, played by Heo Joon-ho. A best-selling author and the professor’s former college classmate, he embodies everything Heo Mun-oh has never managed to become. This one-sided rivalry has fueled his sense of failure for years.

The situation is further complicated by the presence of Ahn Eun-joo (Kim Yoon-jin), Kim Su-hun’s wife and Heo Mun-oh’s first love. His former classmate’s success and this unresolved past only deepen his unease and bitterness.

At his side, Jo Hyun-sook (Jin Kyung), his wife and a psychologist, watches with concern as his interest in Lee Kang grows and considers the consequences this obsession might have on their lives.

The new images also show Jo Han-chul in the role of a university professor who organizes a joint lecture between Heo Mun-oh and Kim Su-hun. This initiative will force the two rivals to come face to face and could mark a major turning point in their relationship.

On Lee Kang's side, several characters will also play an important role.

Lee Jin-woo plays Kim Se-yoon, a warm and outgoing college classmate who quickly tries to get closer to Lee Kang. Unlike Lee Kang, who is very private about his thoughts and emotions, Kim Se-yoon is open and kind, even going so far as to invite him to his home and introduce him to his family.

But Lee Kang’s arrival will gradually upset the balance of this seemingly peaceful household. Kim Jong-tae and Moon Jung-hee play Kim Se-yoon’s parents, while Jung Yi-seo plays his older sister, a character whose enigmatic expressions suggest a role that is more complex than it appears.

Finally, Han Ji-eun plays a housekeeper with an unpredictable temperament, whose actions threaten to unsettle both the family and Lee Kang himself.
