«I’ve never lied.» «You’re lying—it’s obvious.» In his new teaser, « The Perfect Lie »sets the stage for a particularly tense confrontation between Seo Hyun-jin and Yoo Yeon-seok. The two actors find themselves at the center of a psychological thriller in which a single event gives rise to two completely opposing versions of the story.

Set to premiere on October 30 on MBC (and, presumably, on Disney+, to be confirmed worldwide), the drama is directed by Jo Young-min, best known for « You and Everything Else ». It tells the story of how a seemingly ordinary encounter can turn into a real battle to uncover the truth.".

And judging by the new images, neither of the two characters seems willing to back down.

«I've Never Lied»: The first teaser pits two versions of the same story against each other

The first teaser for «The Perfect Lie» doesn’t set out to explain right away what happened. Instead, it piles on the accusations and contradictory statements.

Yoo Yeon-seok can be heard saying, «It really wasn’t an awkward situation at all.»

But the tone changes quickly when the conversation turns to the event that set everything in motion. «You’re trying to make me take all the blame for an act committed on impulse. None of this is true.»

Faced with these accusations, his categorical response rang out: «I’ve never lied.» This statement was immediately contradicted by Seo Hyun-jin’s: «You’re lying—it’s obvious.»

The teaser thus suggests that the characters don’t simply have different memories of a situation. Each seems convinced that the other is deliberately distorting the facts.

Another line, in fact, refers to lies that are strangely intertwined with the truth, before a question is asked that only heightens the unease: «What do you expect from me?»

Finally, one last statement from Seo Hyun-jin adds a more poignant dimension to this confrontation: «I just wanted everything to fall back into place.»

These few sentences are enough to set up the series’ central mystery: What really happened between Kang Ji-sun and Min Joon-ho, and why have their accounts become irreconcilable?

Seo Hyun-jin looks distraught in the pouring rain

Along with this first teaser, MBC has released new photos of Seo Hyun-jin in the role of Kang Ji-sun.

A librarian and elementary school teacher, Ji-sun is a woman who pays close attention to the intentions behind what others say. Yet this quality could prove particularly trying when she finds herself personally involved in a case where every word counts.

It all begins after a first date with Min Joon-ho (Yoo Yeon-seok), a heart surgeon known for his honesty, who has been raising his son alone since his wife’s death. An unexpected incident occurs, and the two characters then begin to give conflicting accounts of what happened. The new footage shows just how deeply this situation seems to be affecting Ji-sun.

In a new series of photographs, she is seen outside in a downpour, without an umbrella, clearly overwhelmed by her emotions. In another shot, she is sitting behind the wheel of a car, watching the rain fall, lost in thought.

These images stand in contrast to the initial portrayal of a woman accustomed to analyzing the words and intentions of others. This time, Ji-sun seems to be facing a situation she can no longer control.

The production team also points out that her character will go through many emotional upheavals: «Kang Ji-sun is a character who experiences a wide range of emotional changes. Seo Hyun-jin brings depth to the story by carefully adjusting the intensity of her performance as the plot unfolds.»

The production team also praised the actress's dedication on set, encouraging viewers to closely follow her character's emotional journey.

Between the accusations in the first teaser and these images of Ji-sun in distress, «The Perfect Lie» seems intent on keeping viewers in the dark until the very end: Is someone actually lying, or is the truth more complex than the two versions presented?

«The Perfect Lie» will premiere on October 30 at 9:50 p.m. on MBC and Disney+ (international air dates to be confirmed).
