Heo Sung-tae (허성태) is a South Korean actor born on October 20, 1977, in Busan. A graduate of Pusan National University, he began his acting career relatively late, after participating in an audition organized by SBS at the age of 33. He then gave up his previous career to become an actor.
He is gradually making a name for himself in the film industry thanks to movies such as The Age of Shadows, The Fortress, The Outlaws, Crawling and The Divine Move 2: The Wrathful. On television, he has appeared notably in Witch at Court, Watcher and Psychopath Diary.
His international fame skyrocketed in 2021 with Squid Game, in which he plays Jang Deok-su, player number 101. That same year, he also played Lee Chang-jin in Beyond Evil and appears in The Silent Sea.
Heo Sung-tae then went on to play a series of roles in Insider, Adamas, Behind Every Star and Big Bet. In 2023, he played the lead role of Noh Sang-cheon in both parts of Chronicles of Crime. He continues with Crash in 2024, and then Good Boy in 2025.
The year 2026 is particularly busy, with Phantom Lawyer, Fifties Professionals, Our Sticky Love and Crash Season 2. It is also announced in My Happy Home.
Often cast as intimidating, ambiguous, or criminal characters, Heo Sung-tae has established himself as a a must-see character actor thrillers and contemporary K-dramas.
