After showing Kim Ji-won with blood-stained hands, « Doctor X »introduces, more broadly, the characters who will revolve around her surgeon. New posters feature" Kim Ji-won, Lee Jung-eun, Son Hyun-joo and Kim Woo-seok, four characters who hold very different positions within the hospital system.
Adapted from the famous Japanese series of the same name, «Doctor X» will be a medical drama with noir elements. Kim Ji-won plays Gye Soo-jung, a brilliant surgeon who intends to rely solely on her skills to take on a hospital system riddled with corruption.
His arrival at Guseo University Hospital, however, is expected to have repercussions far beyond the operating room.
Kim Ji-won Confronts Those in Power
Known as «Crazy Gye» in the operating room, Gye Soo-jung is described as a surgeon who forges ahead without fear of failure and without making compromises.
On her poster, Kim Ji-won has a cold expression against a red background. Yet this apparent impassivity hides a passionate spirit and, above all, a determination to stand up to the corrupt forces that control the institution.
Among those she will face is Boo Seung-kwon, the director of Guseo University Hospital, played by Son Hyun-joo.
His poster shows him holding a microphone in the observation area of an operating room, immediately underscoring his authority. But his much less confident gaze hints at an inner conflict: Seung-kwon will have to reconcile what he believes is right with the reality of the system in which he operates.
Lee Jung-eun finds herself in a different situation. She plays Jang Hee-sook, the head of a medical staffing agency who is responsible for sending Soo-jung to Guseo Hospital.
Her smile looks warm on the poster, but her deliberately inscrutable expression suggests that her true intentions might be more complex than they appear.
Meeting Kim Ji-won will turn Kim Woo-seok's world upside down
Kim Woo-seok rounds out this new series of posters as Park Tae-kyung, a surgical resident whose professional life is about to change completely after he meets Soo-jung.
Unlike the other characters, who seem to have already found their place within the hospital’s operations, Tae-kyung appears unsettled. In his poster, his expression gives the impression that he has just witnessed something unexpected in the operating room. This reaction foreshadows the unpredictable situations he’ll face as he finds himself swept up in Soo-jung’s wake.
These four posters primarily highlight the different roles played by the characters: Soo-jung arrives to tackle the institution’s problems, Hee-sook is the one who sends her there, Seung-kwon is at the top of the hierarchy that she’s about to shake up, and Tae-kyung discovers this world alongside her.
One of the key themes of «Doctor X» will therefore be to see how each character evolves as Gye Soo-jung begins to challenge the established rules and power dynamics at Guseo University Hospital.
«Doctor X» will premiere on October 9 on SBS and on Netflix worldwide.
