It’s one of the most anticipated series of the end of the year. Netflix has set December 11 as the release date for « Tantara », which brings together for the first time Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo on screen. New posters reveal a story that spans three decades of the Korean music industry, from the slums to the spotlight.
A Look Back at Korean Showbiz of Yesteryear
Also known as «Slowly, Intensely,» the series was one of the projects highlighted by Netflix for its Ten Years in Korea.
«Tantara» takes place between the 1960s and 1980s, a time when the Korean entertainment industry was as ruthless as it was unpredictable. It tells the story of young people who had almost nothing but staked everything on a single dream: fame.
Song Hye-kyo and Gong Yoo, Finally Reunited
Song Hye-kyo, star of « The Glory », plays Min-ja. After a childhood marked by poverty, she worked a series of odd jobs to make a living before carving out a path for herself in the music industry.
Alongside him is Gong Yoo, unforgettable in « Goblin », plays Dong-gu, her childhood friend. He’s the one who supports her and helps her make her dream come true. Two of the biggest stars in Korean drama sharing the screen for the first time: for that reason alone, the series was already highly anticipated.
The new poster plays on nostalgia. The characters are arranged on a turntable, like so many chapters of a single story. It traces the journey of Min-ja and Dong-gu: from children living in poverty, to waiters, and finally to young managers in the music industry. It’s a way of summarizing the ups and downs of an entire lifetime.
A Rival and a Genius Composer
The poster also highlights the series’ other key characters. Seolhyun, a former member of AOA, plays the role of Min-hui, a singer. She has a love-hate relationship with Min-ja, while unabashedly pursuing her own success.
Cha Seung-won, saxophone in hand, plays Seok Gil-yeo, the greatest composer of his time, capable of turning any beginner into a star. Lee Ha-nee plays Yang-ja, a passionate singer, and the great Na Moon-hee portrays Mal-soon, whose gaze seems to bear the full weight of the years.
«Tantara» will be available on Netflix on December 11, 2026.
