Ang You-seok, whose real name is Kang Shin-cheol, is a South Korean actor born on June 10, 1994, in Gangneung, South Korea. He grew up in a family of four children and developed a desire to become an actor while in high school. Despite his parents’ initial reservations, he enrolled in the acting department at the Korea National University of Arts.
He made his screen debut in 2018 with a small role in God’s Quiz: Reboot. During his early years, he appeared in numerous productions such as The Hymn of Death, Melting Me Softly, Dr. Romantic 2, Mystic Pop-up Bar, Once Again and Start-Up. In 2021, he began to attract more attention thanks to Noh Shin-woo in Light on Me. He also appeared that year in Beyond Evil and Monster Mansion.
His career reached a new milestone in 2023 with two major roles. In Payback: Money and Power, he plays prosecutor Jang Tae-chun, while the dystopian Netflix series Black Knight casts him in the lead role of Sa-wol, a young refugee who dreams of becoming a delivery driver in a Korea ravaged by pollution.
The year 2025 marked its true breakthrough with the general public. In When Life Gives You Tangerines, he plays Yang Eun-myeong, the son of Ae-sun and Gwan-sik. He then cemented his popularity with Resident Playbook, a spin-off of Hospital Playlist, in which he plays Um Jae-il, a former idol turned obstetrics and gynecology resident. That same year, he played the role of Cho Chang-won in the legal drama Law and the City.
On the big screen, he has appeared notably in The Interviewees, Monster Mansion and Flatterers, before landing a leading role in 6 Lying College Students in 2026.
His future projects include The Miracles of the Namiya General Store and Human x Gumiho in 2027. It has also been announced in the live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, in which he will play Yoo Jin-ho, as well as in The Mentalist.
