Korean TV Series KBS2

KBS2 is the second-largest network in the public broadcasting group Korean Broadcasting System (KBS). Unlike KBS1, which focuses more on news, culture, and public service, KBS2 focuses primarily on entertainment, with a great deal of emphasis placed on K-dramas, variety shows, music, and sports.

KBS2 is a a major figure in the history of K-dramas. As early as the 1990s and 2000s, the network aired several series that have become seminal in the history of Hallyu, such as First Love, Autumn in My Heart, Winter Sonata, Full House or even Boys Over Flowers. These dramas have played a major role in raising the profile of Korean TV series abroad.

Since then, KBS2 has continued to air numerous hits such as Dream High, School 2013, Good Doctor, Healer, Who Are You: School 2015, Love in the Moonlight or Descendants of the Sun.

The channel covers a wide variety of genres: romance, comedy, historical, medical, action, thriller, or even school and family dramas. As with SBS and MBC, KBS2 remains the Original Korean broadcaster, while the international rights to certain series may then be sold to platforms such as Netflix, Viki, or other streaming services, depending on the region.

In recent years, KBS2 has continued to produce K-dramas while diversifying its genres and distribution channels. In particular, the network continues to offer romances, historical dramas, and thrillers, while increasingly relying on streaming platforms to reach an international audience. Recent productions include, notably, Walking on Thin Ice (2025), a drama that blends crime and stories of everyday life, as well as To My Beloved Thief (2026), a historical romantic comedy. Some KBS2 productions are thus broadcast internationally on services such as Netflix and Viki, further cementing the network’s historic role in the export of K-dramas and the Hallyu wave.
