Seven years after «True Beauty,», Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo might reunite as a duo on screen. The actress has received an offer to join « Seorabeol Knife » (working title), the new historical culinary drama for which his former co-star is also currently in talks.
On September 8, following reports in the Korean press announcing Moon Ga-young's casting, her agency, Fantagio, clarified that nothing had been definitively decided yet.
«She has received an offer to appear in the new drama “Seorabeol Knife” and is currently considering it.», said a spokesperson for the agency.
This confirmation is sure to reignite interest in the project: Cha Eun-woo had also received an offer to play the male lead.
Moon Ga-young Could Become a Princess of Silla
If she accepts the project, Moon Ga-young will play Princess Deokyeong, a seonggol, that is, a woman belonging to the highest rank of the Silla royal nobility and descended from a royal lineage considered pure.
Her character dreams of becoming the first queen of Silla. A deeply devout woman and exceptionally curious, Deokyeong has a highly refined taste for perfumes and fine dining, as well as an eye for calligraphy and painting that is said to be unmatched in the kingdom.
This princess with royal ambitions is set to cross paths with a man from a completely different era.
«Seorabeol Knife» will indeed tell the story of the encounter between a contemporary Italian chef nicknamed the «Temptation of the Mediterranean» and a princess destined to become the «Sun of Seorabeol.».
The male protagonist, owner and chef of a Michelin-starred restaurant, finds himself thrust into 1,000 years ago following a mysterious prophecy. Upon arriving in Silla, he meets Deokyeong, a princess who is also an extremely discerning foodie.
To survive in this world that is not his own, the chief will then have to prove to him just how far true «taste» can go.
A reunion 7 years after «True Beauty»?
The Cha Eun-woo who was offered the role of this Michelin-starred chef.
As we reported in August, several Korean media outlets had at the time touted «Seorabeol Knife» as his potential first drama following his military service. Fantagio, however, quickly clarified that the actor had not yet accepted anything and was considering the offer.
So the situation is currently the same for both actors: Moon Ga-young and Cha Eun-woo have each received an offer, but their participation has not yet been confirmed.
If both of them ultimately agree, «Seorabeol Knife» will mark their reunion about 7 years after « True Beauty », in which their relationship had played a major role in their international popularity.
The context, however, will be very different. After their high school romance, this time they might find themselves in a story that blends time travel, fine dining, the Silla period, and romance, featuring a 21st-century leader facing off against a princess who dreams of ascending to the throne.
The drama will be directed by Jang Tae-yoo, who previously directed «My Love from the Star,» «Hyena,» and, more recently, «Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.» According to reports, «Seorabeol Knife» is set in the same universe as «Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.».
The project is currently being considered for 2027, but the network and exact date have not yet been officially announced.
