Nana is going to take a radical new direction with « Materesa ". Netflix has officially confirmed the production of this new series—which is still listed under a working title—as well as its lead trio, consisting of Nana, Kim Dan, and Jung Gun-joo.
The project is also drawing attention behind the camera, as Jang Young-woo—who has worked on «Queen of Tears» and «Bulgasal: Immortal Souls,» among others—will direct it. The screenplay will be written by Kwon So-ra and Seo Jae-won, the screenwriters of «The East Palace.».
Nana becomes a criminal psychologist with a traumatic past
At the heart of «Materesa,» you’ll find Ma Teresa (Nana), a professor and criminal psychologist with a particularly cold demeanor who investigates unsolved murder cases that have captured the public’s attention.
Far from simply studying criminals from a distance, Teresa personally confronts and interrogates them while following up on the various leads in each investigation. Behind this intense persona, however, lies a woman who is still haunted by a trauma from her past.
As she gets closer to a truth she has long sought, her convictions are likely to begin to waver, giving way to emotions she hadn't anticipated. Nana will thus have to navigate between the criminal psychologist's detachment and determination and the more intimate wounds of her character.
Two Men and Secrets Surrounding Ma Teresa
Kim Dan will play Park Seol, Teresa’s longtime assistant. Behind his innocent appearance and smile, however, lies a secret, while his true emotions remain carefully concealed.
Park Seol participates in the investigations in the hope of catching Teresa's attention, but his behavior doesn't go unnoticed by Yoo A-ram (Jung Gun-joo). A prosecutor and longtime friend of Teresa's, he helps her with her investigations while keeping a wary eye on the mysterious assistant who is constantly by her side.
The criminal investigations should therefore intertwine with a more personal dynamic among the three characters. As they investigate several unsolved murders, Teresa, Park Seol, and Yoo A-ram will gradually be confronted with long-buried truths and emotions.
