They have nothing in common, and yet the fate of the kingdom rests on their shoulders. In « Sacred Jewel » («The Sacred Jewel» in French), the historical drama by JTBC expected in December, Ahn Bo-hyun and Lee Sung-min make an unlikely pair. The new footage shows two commanders forced to work together… while never stopping their rivalry.
A mission on which an entire kingdom depends
The story takes place in 1258, during the Goryeo Dynasty. After nearly thirty years of war against the Mongols, Korea is on the brink of defeat. An escort unit is tasked with transporting the Pearl of Avalokiteshvara, a sacred relic believed to possess the divine power to protect the nation. For the people, it is their last hope. Leading this mission are two men who are polar opposites.
Baek Gyeol: The Boldness of Youth
Ahn Bo-hyun plays Baek Gyeol, a young commander from the Gyeollyonggun, the royal guard. True to his roots, he is bold, ambitious, and stubborn. And he is secretly in love with the emperor's daughter, Princess Wang Hee, played by Claudia Kim.
At first, he has no desire to work with the Yabyeolcho, Goryeo’s elite unit. Yet he will have to accompany them on a perilous mission fraught with unexpected obstacles. It remains to be seen how this young man, determined to do things his own way, will adapt to the harsh realities of the battlefield.
Choi Gu: Experience in the Field
Facing him, Lee Sung-min plays Choi Gu, the leader of the Yabyeolcho. A veteran covered in scars who has survived countless battles. Assigned to command the Yabyeolcho forces within the escort, he must work with a partner who is far less experienced than he is.
Will he be able to guide the young commander with his composure and field experience, or will their disagreements jeopardize the entire mission?
Allies at Odds
The new images capture this ambivalent relationship. They show the two men united in their mission as escorts, but also facing off, ready to fight. Their opposing personalities and differing levels of experience lead to repeated clashes.
A classic master-student dynamic, which promises to be all the more intense here, given that the survival of an entire kingdom is at stake.
«Sacred Jewel» will air starting in December 2026 on JTBC and will be available internationally on Prime Video.
