Biography

Choi Won-young (Choi Won-young), whose real name is Choi Seong-wook, is a South Korean actor born on January 10, 1976. He made his film debut in 2002 in Sex Is Zero and went on to build a particularly prolific career in both film and television.

Over the years, he has made a name for himself in particular in While You Were Sleeping, A Hundred Years of Heritage, The Heirs, Hello Monster, Hwarang, Mad Dog, SKY Castle and Doctor Prisoner. He regularly plays fathers, men in positions of power, or ambiguous characters, but has also taken on several leading roles, such as Kim Woo-chul in Twenty Again, Lee Jun-ho in Hello Monster, Kim Yoon-chul in My Dangerous Wife or Chef Gwi in Mystic Pop-up Bar.

His career remained very active throughout the 2020s. In 2022, he played Hwang Hyun-do in The Golden Spoon and especially King Lee Ho in Under the Queen's Umbrella. In 2023, he plays the adult version of Ha Yi-chan in Twinkling Watermelon. The following year, he played Yoon Jeong-jae, Joo-won's father, in Family by Choice and also appears in Hierarchy as Jung Gi-young, Jae-i's father.

In 2025, he continues with The Murky Stream as Yun Tae-seok / Prince Dae-ho and appears in Shin's Project. In 2026, he worked on several productions in quick succession: Undercover Miss Hong, Phantom Lawyer, We Are All Trying Here, To My Beloved Thief and The Practical Guide to Love. In the latter, he plays Shin Ji-hun, the father of Shin Ji-soo, a character portrayed by Lee Ki-taek.

As for his film career, his filmography includes, among others, Confession of Murder, The Plan Man, Jesters: The Game Changers, Yaksha: Ruthless Operations, as well as the international film Past Lives in 2023, in which he plays Nora's father. He also appears in Land of Happiness in 2024 and Dora in 2026.

In his personal life, Choi Won-young has been married since 2014 to the actress Shim Yi-young, whom he had met while filming A Hundred-Year Legacy. The couple has two girls, born in 2014 and 2017, respectively.
