Song Joong-ki (송중기; 宋仲基) is a South Korean actor born on September 19, 1985, in Daejeon. A former short-track speed skater, he retired from competition after an injury and studied business administration at Sungkyunkwan University. He made his film debut in A Frozen Flower in 2008, before gaining attention through TV dramas Triple and above all Sungkyunkwan Scandal.
Her first major leading role came with The Innocent Man in 2012. That same year, the phenomenal success of the film A Werewolf Boy confirms his status as a star. After completing his military service, he achieved international acclaim with Descendants of the Sun, for which he won the Grand Prize at the KBS Drama Awards. He went on to star in Arthdal Chronicles, then reinvented himself by playing a mafia lawyer in Vincenzo and a man seeking revenge against a corporate family in Reborn Rich.
On the big screen, Song Joong-ki stands out in particular in Battleship Island, Space Sweepers, Hopeless, My name is Loh Kiwan and Bogotá: City of the Lost. In 2025, he returned to romance with My Youth, alongside Cheon Woo-hee, as Sunwoo Hae, a former child actor turned florist. He also makes a brief appearance in the Japanese Netflix series Romantics Anonymous, released on October 16, 2025.
In 2027, he will return to KBS in Love Cloud, in which he will play Kang Woo-joo, a former flight instructor turned air traffic controller, opposite Park Ji-hyun. The project and its 2027 premiere have been officially confirmed by the network.
Thanks to his charisma and his ability to seamlessly blend romance, action, and drama, Song Joong-ki remains one of the leading figures of the international Korean wave.
